What about T-Bone Walker? i know he was originally from Texas but he re-located to LA in the early 1940's and that was his home base there after.
He was actually one of the earliest blues artists to be recorded playing an electric guitar. When you listen to him today, with the big-band type orchestras playing in the background, you soon realize that the blues can be taken way beyond 3 simple chords! Whenever someone criticizes the Blues to me, saying that it's just simple 3 chord rubbish I get kind of annoyed, but if I can I will play them some of T-Bone Walker's "Stormy Monday" or BB King's "Night Life"...those guys are just about using all 12 notes in one song!
People that put down the blues are obviously just un-educated because there wouldn't be modern music as we know it today if it weren't for the Blues. Sounds crazy but everything is eventually connected back to Blues and Folk roots.

chromeface, you are in a very rare blue space with this, excellent choice. I saw this band 3 times at the Kinetic Playground in 1968 (the first time early that year the venue was called the Electric Theater). The last time there Jimi Hendrix was in the audience next to me for a while. This tune was their coup de gras for those of us that were overly enthusiastic psychedelically. It worked every time lol. I miss this band a whole lot. I saw them one last time in London 1973 but with the blind owl in heaven and the sunflower absent it just wasn't the same. Enjoy these west coast blues.

I was lucky enough to see Canned Heat approx 20 years ago (around 1993-94?) at Johno's Blues Bar in Cairns, Queensland, Australia. At the time I was only 20 years old and more into my hard rock than blues (unlike today -I'm a huge Blues fan now!) and apart from "Going Up Country" I really didn't know much about Canned Heat at all.
After that show though, I was fully converted! I would have to credit them (and Johno's Blues Band) for steering my attention more towards the Blues.
I especially remember being blown away at how the drummer would sing some of the songs! I'd never seen that before, even on TV, so that stuck in my memory. And while I'm not even sure if Johno is still alive (he must've been in his 50's in the early 90's), without knowing it he influenced me a great deal. He used to introduce himself at the door of the club (swigging away at his bottle of Jack Daniel's) before his band took the stage and I remember on a few occasions he would be so drunk he could barely walk to the stage but once he strapped on his guitar he would fully come to life and play a perfect set!
I saw a number of bands at that small club in the early 90's (which I think is now closed unfortunately), including an un-announced appearance by Billy Gibbons (of ZZ Top fame).
I know that you people out there living in the USA wouldn't see much of a big deal in that (you guys get great artists constantly!) but in Cairns it was amazing because geographically it's so far away from most places.

Dan, glad that you saw Canned Heat. they were/are a great blues band. Hard party people and a whole lot of fun to be around, I met Bob (The Bear) Hite and Larry (The Mole) Taylor after a gig at the Kinetic Playground in Chicago. Here is a video of the original line-up on Hugh Hefner's Playboy After Dark:

Jimi could represent guitar blues from anywhere in the USA so I thought that posting this video here would be ok:
