When I setup the noise suppressor like it says in the manual it works fine but when I add a boss sd1 overdrive along with my wampler black 65 it doesn't do much even at full settings.

It sounds fine and quiet setup like this: guitar to the input of ns2, ns2 send to wampler black 65 input, wampler black 65 output to amp. When I add the sd1 overdrive I set it up as I have it listed above but with the wamer output going to the boss sd1 input, sd1 output to amp. It is the sd1 that creates horrible buzz when I turn it on with the wampler and ns2 on.

nr2003man, I haven't used that pedal so can't give you the info you need, however, there are some very knowledeable pedal guru's on this Forum so an acceptable answer should be forthcoming. :D

God I hated that pedal. One of two that I took back to the shop.

I'd put the pedal at the end of an effects loop. Gain, tone, some delays in the front end of the amp.

My only successful use of a noise gate is the one on my 2203KK. That is exceptionally silent, even at minimum settings. I can only presume that Marshall put it right before the phase inverter in the circuit. Because the preamp makes noise when the thing isn't engaged and doesn't when it is.

No love for the Boss NS-2 'round these parts, either.

Too much squashing of sustain, occasional weird overtones when using a P-90 equipped guitar and the fact that it just didn't work that well made it a quick return/refund for me as well.

I have used the big blue Rocktron Hush pedal for years, and I love it. Put it in your signal chain after everything EXCEPT your delays (putting a noise suppressor after your delay pedal wreacks havoc on the repeats/echoes), and it does a dandy job.

On a side note, if you have the odd/occasional low gain pedal (for example, pedals specifically made for harmonica/harp users are low gain), put these AFTER the noise suppressor, too; otherwise, it sounds like crap. I don't know why, I just know it's true from the manufacturer's recommendations, other people's anecdotes and personal experience...I have a Lone Wolf Blues Company Harp Break pedal (a low gain harmonica overdrive pedal--makes a Fender Clean Amp sound like a little ol' funky Magnatone or something!!), and if I put my HUSH pedal after the LWBC Harp Break, it ruins the effectiveness of the (harp overdrive) pedal.

Also, I had an ISP Decimator G String noise suppressor pedal for a couple of years; great for guitar, terrible for harp microphones. It was very expensive, and it also added a slight "metallic" overtone on the trailing edge of a sustained note; that's not bad if you're playing heavy metal or something like that (made it easy to cop some of Zakk Wylde's sounds) but not so great for blues, rock and Outlaw country (which is what I play)...

There's a new(er), small(er) Rocktron HUSH pedal with a brushed metal case (it looks stainless or aluminum) that I've read good things about, but I have no experience whatsoever with that particular device. If it works anything like the big(ger) blue HUSH pedal, it would be a keeper.

I want to try using my boss sd1 as a treble boost while my wampler black 65 pedal is on so I guess I need to put my ns2 last in the pedals after the sd1. I'm trying to boost my already overdriven p90 sound. Maybe get a ISP gstring.
