Sorry to hear about your loss PB. My dad's been gone almost twenty years now and I still miss him, there's so many things I would like to tell him and ask him, but I guess I'll just have to wait.

My dad couldn't even play a radio much less a guitar, but he got me my first cheap guitar when I was a kid, and always encouraged me, and was proud of me. He didn't like a lot of the stuff I was playing back then but he still encouraged me. To this day when I get up in front of people to play I often think, if my daddy could see me now. Your dad sounded like a great guy, cherish the memories.

My dad and I were pretty close too. He was always totally supportive of my learning and playing and never had a negative word. He succumbed to cancer on Thanksgiving in 1988. He, for lack of a better word, went "prematurely" delirious and within two days thereafter, comatose and we never had a chance to say goodbye. I completely know how you feel as I to this day miss him terribly as well. The plain truth is, you don't get over it. Rather, you are forced to adjust as time goes on.

My condolences to you and yours and hopefully, you will take solace in not only the memories but in the expectation that you will in fact, see him again in perfection.

It's very hard to loose a parent at any time but especially hard this time of year,my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you cope with his passing.I'm glad that you and your father had such a great rapport and mutual love of music. The fact that he bought you your first guitar all those years ago shows that he knew that you had an aptitude for music and he wanted you to further your interest in it.God Bless him and I pray that God will bring comfort to you all.

Sorry for your loss. My father died 15 years ago and I still miss him. Funny how he got smarter as I got older.

thank you all for your kind words.

i just got back from the memorial service. i was elected to say a few words about my dad. it was hard to put into words how i felt about him. i agonized over the last 2 days, but was finally able to express my thanks to him for all he did.

lots of crying over the last few days- but it will get easier. thanks for your support
