after a valiant battle my dad passed away this morning.

back in 1960, my dad decided to get me guitar lessons. coming from a polish family i was supposed to play accordian  .

he drove me to lessons, practices, and gigs when i was too young to drive. on the way home he always had some great critiques-always positive.

a few years back i had to drive him somewhere. i brought some music he liked. along the way he was commenting on the songs. "that guy sounds like les paul" - "those are great harmonies"- "i really like the drums in this song". then it hit me. my dad never had a music lesson, but he understood it very well. thanks to him, i have been exposed to many types of music.

to everyone out there- call your parents, and thank them for lessons, for allowing your band to practice in the basement, and for nurturing your music career.

now it's time to grab my guitar and play a song for my dad. he will be missed

Losing our parents is tough. I understand totally what you are experiencing. My Dad passed in October of 2006, at the age of 81. He and I were close, and I think of him everyday, and am thankful for the selfless comittment he had for our family.
He and Mom gave me my first electric guitar in 1964.
Dad did not have any music knowledge either, but was always singing or whistling a tune.
I wish for you peace, healing, health, and safety.

Sorry to hear of this, especially tough time of year I'm sure. But it seems like you're doing the right thing by focusing on the positive memories you have. Best wishes and serious mojo being sent to you and your family.

I'm sure he'll hear it too!
And keep your ears open for those critiques :)

Sorry for your loss. I lost my grandparents, both at once(who were more like parents to me), in a car accident earlier this year, so I can certainly empathize. Best wishes.

Sorry of your loss. My dad passed in 1997. I miss him.
You are so very lucky , in your dad was supportive. Mine was not so much. But I guess that was the way in the 60's & 70's.To him music was not work, it was just having fun. But my grandaughter loves music !!!! We jam.....
