I had the two pedals I got from the Mojo Hand FX endorsement contest show up today! I also tried out my new Akai Analog Delay pedal which has been sitting in my room for the last few days since I've been so busy lately. The two pedals I ended up choosing from Mojo Hand were the Bayou Trem and the Crosstown Fuzz.

I'll start off with the Tremolo. I've been using a Boss TR-2, and while there's nothing wrong with it really, it doesn't do a great job of cutting through the mix when I play live. I need something that stands out in the mix and that allows me to retain the same volume level when it's on. I won't know how the Bayou Trem handles the live situation until after I play tomorrow night, but it's level control has a lot more impact on the overall volume than the TR-2 and the tremolo is also more pronounced. I think it will do well, but I like I said, I won't know for sure until tomorrow.

The Crosstown Fuzz really blew me away, sort of like the Rook Overdrive did. I've gone through a good three or four fuzz pedals since I've started playing guitar and none of them have stuck. They all sounded really harsh and gritty, and none of them sounded any good playing a Fender guitar through a Fender amp. The Crosstown sounded excellent, just by itself when I played my Strat and Tele straight through it into a clean amp. There's nothing harsh about it, and it still retains the quality of the note without drowning it in insane amounts of gain. It also cleans up great when you roll off a little on the guitar's volume. I'm really happy with it, because I finally found a fuzz pedal that can work with Fenders! :D (And yes, it sounded pretty awesome with my Les Paul too.)

And finally, that Akai Analog Delay. They're normally $150, but I got mine from a musician's friend stupid deal of the day for $30. I just couldn't resist how cheap it was! I had some really low expectations considering how huge of a discount I got it at and what people were saying about it being just a cheapish made in China pedal. But I was actually pleasantly surprised with it. It nails the classic analog delay tone, and I think I'm going to try taking it out to gig this weekend. I normally use my MXR Carbon Copy, but the other guitar player in the band has exactly the same pedal and I'm trying to make my rig a little different. We both like Strats, neck pickups, tubescreamers, the same MXR carbon copy, and the same Fender Twin amp. So I've been playing a lot more with the Tele, the bridge pickup, and switching to some new pedals to try to cut through the mix.

But anyway, I've never had a triple NPD before so this was really cool. I told everybody not to worry about getting me anything Christmas this year, these pedals (plus my Battle of the Blues guitars) have me covered for another five or six birthdays and Christmases combined!

I've got some pictures of the Mojo Hand FX pedals here: http://i984.photobucket.com/albums/ae324/texasguitarslinger777/MojoHandGroup_zpsd42fbe25.jpg
I haven't figured out how to resize them to fix here yet, so I have to resort to the link.
