so for those of you who haven't heard me talk about it before, i'm a welder and in the current economy i've been working for way under what i'm worth for quite some time...
well, my ship just came in. got a job offer for NISSAN here in tennessee, welding up seat frame brackets... very very easy short welds. and I'll be making TRIPLE what I have been.
wheee! but the downside is it's ten hours a day , 7 days a week... so I will be a zombie by this time next month.... but I'm thinking I see some NGDs in my near future!

Congrats!!! I know what it feels like to do the same job for less and less money. I made 1/4 of what I made 5 years ago. I hope you get paid mad bucks!! And get lots of benefits :D

Wow that's a tough work load-I would think that making someone work 7 days a week at 10 hours a day would be against state labour codes.Governments enforce the practice to give people proper rest periods after so many days of work not only as a human rights issue but as a safety practice-a tired worker is as dangerous as a drunk worker.

Lots of luck with it anyway, you should be able to buy some top rate gear after a work term like that.

Not many worker rights in the good ole USA. In the construction world, they will work you 7 12s until hell won't have it. Women and children have some rights. If you can't hack it, get your jacket.

I am a self employed contractor, myself and another contractor work together,we try to work 8 hour days, but you also have to look at jobs, bid them, present estimates to the customer,do the billing and the paper work involved, plus the home stuff take out trash, recycles. mow the lawn, shovel the drive ect ect. plus I work 6 hours a night at a hydraulic cylinder factory 4 nights a week so my daughter can go to college. you can do it, I do 64 hrs a week and im close to 56 years old

From the company's point of view wouldn't it be better to employ two people on 35 hours a week each, rather than one doing a 70 hour week? Much better for productivity, you'd have thought?

Anyway. Congrats on landing the gig, lameandcliche. Onward and upward. 8)

Cheers - C

Congrats lameandcliche. But 70 hours a week jeez. Now I feel lucky that I live in a country that has little bit of socialism mixed in with capitalism
