...hot salt paste, try it!

If shingles lies dormant till you're feeling run down, ya definitely don't want to be picking up bacteria and viruses via improper hygiene, you'll get run-down and trigger shingles!

I had chicken pox when I was a child. After reading this thread, I'm going to be triple sure I don't get run down. I do a meatless diet, and 95% of the time I consume organic, non-gmo foods, lots of hemp seed and whey protein and veggies and fruits for protein and such, no wheat, it's bad for everybody, no bad cholesterol, very limited dairy products, pure coconut oil for brain food, herbs, spices, no preserved foods, lots of pure water (not soda, etc., nor alcohol), raising the kundalini, and no pharmaceuticals and no toxic dental schtuff unless there is zero other choice. Coincidentally, after the first of the year, out of curiosity, I'm going to see a "holistic" dentist to see what "whole body dentistry" is all about. I'll ask them about shingles.

Christ is good, Christ Consciousness, ...not war.

About 5 years ago I had chicken pox as an adult, which I heard is far worse that having as a child. Never been in so much pain in my life, i remember waking up at 3am in absolute agony with blisters all over my body screaming my head off. i thought if it didnt clear soon the pain would drive me mad. I've heard shingles is similar, so If that's true- I'm hoping you have a very quick and painless recovery :D

I had it several years ago on exactly 1/2 of my head. Bourbon does help. Or not. Who remembers? It got into my eye and crossed my optic nerve...

Hey GTG: yeah, the optic nerve thing was a bit scary. I remember I got sent to hospital a couple of times during my flare up to have the back of my eyeball checked out to make sure bad stuff wasn't happening, and the next time I had a regular eye test they wanted to know about the opthalmic shingles too, to make sure there was no long term damage.

The shingles virus (which is herpes zoster, just to add to the pleasure - though nothing to do with the herpes STD) apparently lives in our nervous system, so places like the optic nerve are potentially vulnerable.

I'd previously been under the misapprehension that having chickenpox as a kid was a good thing, because that meant it was over and done with. No such luck, it turns out! And if you get shingles once you have a raised risk of getting it further times too. Great, huh?

It's a bonny life if you don't weaken... :?

Cheers - C

Being an old man, I got a shingles shot a few months ago. Crossed fingers.

Way to throw a wet blanket over my opti-rectitus condition.

Merry Christmas. I'll bet London is beautiful during the holidays.

Sorry to hear it.
My dad had shingles some years ago.
He was not pleased to say the least.
Bummer.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Supposedly you are susceptible to shingles if you had chicken pox as a kid.

That's been my understanding as well.

Perhaps ZZDoc or one of our other medically-inclined forum members can expound upon this hypothesis.
