After being unemployed for over 4 months (Yes, I know there are a lot of people that have been out of work for even longer.), it looks like one of the jobs I applied to has finally come through.

I received a contingent offer from the company back at the end of August pending contract win by the team they are on. Well, their team won (my new company is a sub), and the contract was announced at the end of September only to be immediately protested by one of the losing competitors. That company dropped their protest in late August, but then the government sat on their hands.

The government finally awarded the contract and gave the prime approval to proceed in late November. Then the prime muddled around with things and didn't give approval for the subs to start until this week.

So, my start date is Monday, December 31 2012. Then I get the next day off. Christmas may be a little late, but that's OK.

The ironic thing is, my new company is sub to the company that laid me off back in August.

I hope not! Don't tell me this will mark the end of those episodic threads we've come to know.
I'm still hoping you'll do one for the HRD.

All the best,
BM

Yeah, we've heard that before!

Glad to hear that you are going to be back among the working - some of us are still keeping that Social Security train running... :?

Here's wishing you all the best in 2013!

Bill...That is the best news I have heard in quite some time! Congrats!

As for working for the sub of the contractor that laid you off...you can't be surprised by that, you have worked for the US Gov't before!

Welcome back to the world of working stiffs!

T2

Good for you, Bill!!
Great news!
I bet that's a load off....

I have a new job too but it's not really the same level of news.
I was off for a considerable while longer than you but most of that time was by my own choice and that's why I didn't mention it here before; because I wasn't really hurting. I started a couple days ago. I've got a brand new company pickup, and not a plain jane one either, an unlimited gas card, an unlimited Blackberry Bold and a brand new quad core 17" laptop with a fully equipped docking station. It's been a while since a company showed me this kind of love this early in the game. Too bad it's all gonna end in a few days when those freakin' Mayans finally have their way.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Thanks, everyone. I can't wait to get back to work. Getting up at 6:00 am. Fighting rush hour traffic. Dealing with idiot bosses and cranky customers. Geez how I missed it all.

Oh, I'll still be posting, just not during the day like I have been. I've decided that after I pay off all of our bills with my remaining severance, if I have enough left over I'm gonna build another amp. I'm thinking 5E3. :D
