The back story is incomplete. My wife inherited it from her mother. It was originally owned by my wife's grandmother, who played for the Philadelphia symphony in the late 20's, early 30's and taught piano into her 80's (she passed at 97 in 2008). I've sent serial number and photos to Baldwin to see if they can provide more info.

I didn't know Gibson owns Baldwin now, but there is a Baldwin forum on the Gibson site that gave me a link (hence the title of this post).

Now the real work begins. After over 30 years of playing various stringed instruments by ear, I have to learn how to read music!

Nice! The hammers and strings look great for that vintage! 8)

You are so lucky to have such a beautiful instrument. The difference in sound between a grand piano and an upright is almost as profound as the difference between and electric and acoustic guitar. If you don't play piano already it would really behoove you to take lessons as an instrument as lovely as that should have its keys caressed every day.

awesome. Congrats.

speaking of Baldwin, Gibson used to have their Baldwin Showcase downtown in Nashville. In 2003 theyhad Scotty's 50th anniversary with Gibson party there, though he was hospitalized that day and could not attend. The place is closed now.

Beautiful!

I've been playing piano for almost 10 years now, and I would love a baby grand, but I have no place for it.

enjoy!

I will encourage you to learn how to read music . But I can not see the contradiction in that vs trying to find out of it o your own ??? If you have been playing guitar for 30 years , I guess it will be very easy to translate guitar chords and melody lines to the piano. As soon as you are able locate the ''C'' you should make it
For me it started the other way around - we got a piano in my home when I was a kid (7-8 years)
- and I found out of that chords/melodies (simple things first......) And I did not have any musical background at that time. So I guess your chances of making it are even better the mine was.
My further experiences into the universe of music , was starting to take lessons into classical music for some years - then I got a guitar at 14 , and was more concentrated on that ( and have been so after that) . But from time to time I am told that I am still a better piano player than a guitar player. In which I disagree - but it may be that I don't have the abilities to judge
Still I love both the instruments
Good luck -and congrats again 8)
