Hopefully my last post on this. Found the following article (see link). The article makes a good point, and it reminded me of the high mortality rate of artists in certain genres of the graphic arts (like Van Gogh).

Okay, so let me get this straight - mainlining speedball cocktails of heroin, cocaine, speed, while high on Ecstacy, after smoking weed, despite having a juicy dinner of Jack Daniels, may cause you to choke on your own . . . or crash your car if you decide to drive over to the crack house while on acid? Makes me glad I don't smoke or drink, since the chemo burned me up and left me naturally . . . placid.

There is a site that lists musicians and how they died. It tells about how the person died and there is a lot of history and info building on it :

I have no way to prove it, but I'm willing to bet more people die each year in factory related accidents then playing guitar. Same with car accidents, sports related accidents, etc.....

I'm sure guitar playing is one of the safer daily activities you can partake in.

Famous Musicians are human too. Some of them died in Helicopter/airplane/car/motorcycle crashes, some from natural causes, some from drug use, some from being shot, some from suicide, etc. Being a famous musician only made their deaths more notable, the average Human dies from these things daily.

Those peole were good maybe great guitarist; but I think the thing we're all missing is deeper. EC amongst other have talked about it some. In an interview I think it was "the South Bank Show" where he mentioned it. It went some thing like this; these are just loose quotes I have in my head but here goes...
"When I write a song it's from things going on in my life; A thought hits me in the middle of the night and I run downstairs and write it down maybe play some notes..."
"I'm not up to writing a hit song" "I write when I'm have angst over something in my life"
So to put this together about the motality rate of guitarists..
Artists are artists because they feel an overwheming need to express feelings. We do it with the Arts... brushes, or writing music, acting, or performing; all the arts are about expression. Was it Picaso that was Bi polar? I belive if you do the research you'll find most hit songs from the Beatles on up; the songs that "really mean some thing" were written in an hour of angst; by people in a tremendos emotional state. Some were I'm sure clinically depressed.
A lot of "untrained" song writers have questions; have the blues, whatever and certainly some are depressed BIG TIME and the guitar is their outlet;
sometimes it's inadequet or they don't get the recognition they feel they deserve or don't want the recognition....anyway as others have said here they are people that have the flaws and perfections we all share and "IT HAPPENS"

Funny as I write this, the Stones are on each side of this page. Apparently, if you play guitar and make it past your 30's you might live forever.

Hmm, sounds like Clapton's life and he's still here after 60 years of age....
