I'm a lefty. I can't play a note right handed - no sense of rhythm and picking fingers useless.

It has been a pain, being limited to a few guitars and paying more for them too.

I'll chime in. I'm new here as well, having just signed up.

I am a lefty, but play right handed.

I am the only left handed musician in my family.
I play both bass and guitar.

When I first started playing, many years ago, I knew nothing of left handed instruments, or the fact that being left handed should even be a factor. Everyone taught me from a righty perspective, and the first guitar I was given was, of course, a typical right hander.

Everyone I knew played right handed. I just assumed that's how it was, so I just learned to play right handed. Even when I did learn that many left handed people played left handed and that the instruments existed for lefties, I was already set in right handed playing and have had no reason to or interest in switching.

I'm a lefty, and sometimes feel sorry for not learning to play righty. Don't get me wrong, I am proud to be a lefty but us south paws have a limited choice when it comes to trying out instruments at a music shop. It is frustrating but I've learned to deal with it. I know all you lefties can attest to that.

True, but there are also some advantages to playing lefty, namely:

1) no one ever asks to borrow or play your guitars
2) the relatively limited selection of instruments helps keep you from blowing a ton of cash on a bunch of guitars you don't need 8)

I think the selection of lefty guitars has improved quite a bit in recent years, with most of the most popular models/body types now readily available (at least if you're willing to take a chance on ordering an instrument you haven't actually had a chance to play beforehand).

It would be nice, though, if Fender USA offered at least ONE lefty guitar with a humbucker...

bump for the lefties

I am left handed and play left handed. Not going to lie, sometimes I regret it when I see new incredible looking guitars being released that I can't have :(

It's horrible having such a limited choice, yes it has improved but it is still not enough.

For example I would LOVE fender to have produced some lefties of their pawn shop series. It's horrible having just strats and teles to choose from (and a the cobain signatures).

As time goes on I find myself looking more and more towards lesser known brands, who for some reason don't have as much of an issue with producing lefties.

I also don't buy in to the whole issue with right and left handed producing machinery, I was told by a fender rep that this is the reason they don't produce many lefty models, but in this day and age technology should not be an excuse. It's not the 60's anymore.

I'm a righty but I play a lefty Strat, upside down.I'm a obsessive Hendrix fanatic and where I do a lot of Hendrix covers I had to get a lefty Strat and flip it.It would be impossible to do some Jimi covers on a right handed Strat because to successfully emulate some of Jimi's effects and sounds you absolutely have to use a flipped guitar.I believe that this was the reason that Jimi never used lefty Strats, even though they were available at the time.
