That's three of us so far. Has any of you lefties tried playing left handed at first, and then convert the guitar to a right handed reverse guitar? I've been watching Craigslist for the right guitar to do that to. An upside down Jag-Stang would be fun, but left handed ones seem to go for a premium on eBay or Craigslist.

I'm also a lefty playing right handed. I played cello in school for a few years before getting my first guitar, so by then my left hand was used to fingering notes, and my right hand used to articulating them.

I've always felt that it made more sense to play "backwards" anyway... If you think about it, when the guitar was originally developed, it was more comon to finger a chord and do more intricate fingerpicking work with your right hand, which for most is the dominant hand. However, as the instrument has evolved, more focus has moved to the fretting hand for fast moving flurries of lead notes, while the dominant hand has been relegated to holding a pick. For today's guitarists, it would make more sense to have one's strong hand on the fretboard, not holding a small piece of plastic to pluck strings with. The more I think this way, I tend to wonder why violins, violas, and cellos are played as they are... it would seem more logical to hold the bow with one's weak hand and put the strong hand on the neck, especially in most classical music.

But anyway, yeah, playing as a righty works much better for me than the other way around, even though I'm left handed. FWIW, when I play drums, I'm useless on a right handed kit, I have to set the drums up "backwards". I also put my wah and volume pedals on the left side of my pedalboard, since I'm also left footed. (Probably why I never liked any of those multi-effects pedals with the expression pedal on the right...)

I took one lesson left handed on a reversed, right handed guitar; that was it.

Lefty, here. I learned on a right-handed instrument. The reason for this was economics (I bought the cheapest bass I could find) and the lack of any lefty instruments in the shop. When you think about it, it seems to make sense because you fret with your dominant hand.

So far, I'm the only lefty that plays left-handed. Am I cool, or what? 8)

I'm a lefty and play left-handed. I actually started on a right-handed guitar and switched to playing left-handed a couple of years later because I had no dexterity whatsoever in by picking hand. After a few awkward weeks, I began feeling more comfortable playing lefty than I ever did playing righty.

Many leftys have no trouble playing on a right handed guitar, but for others it's a real challenge. I'm glad that we have a choice and that many of the instrument companies (including Fender) make left-handed guitars for those of us who need them.

When I picked up a guitar again in my 60's, I purchased a used Fender from the most respected dealer in the city. Asking if maybe I should buy a left handed guitar, they said most likely not...when you attend a symphony do you see any left handed instruments? Lefties can have a preference either way. I used to feel being left handed was a disadvantage, now I think of it as an advantage.
