"a date which will live in infamy."

December 7th is the 71st year anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Give a nod to the men and women who had their lives taken away. Remember the 1,177 entombed on BB39, the USS Arizona.

Amen...

See: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=81109

BTW, while it's true 1,177 Sailors and Marines perished on the Arizona, a little over 200 were either removed from the wreckage or died in Hospital. That left a little more than 900 crewmen permanently entombed in the Memorial itself.

However, even today, a surviving member of the ship's company can request, upon their death, to be cremated and laid to rest in the Memorial alongside their shipmates. Many have chosen to do so.

cheers!

No problem. Pearl Harbor Day is always remembered in our house. A little haunting to see the USS Arizona afloat, and then at rest.

The Arizona was due to go to dry dock, to be retro fitted with a thicker forward deck. That never happened.

Visited the memorial back in 1975 on my honeymoon. Very moving and solemn place.
