Last Briggs and Stratten I looked at was attached to a lawn mower. :(

Thats all we had back in the day unless you stuffed a Hodaka motor in something.

When in your own mind you've got your finger on the pulse because you bought a Clash/Ry Cooder/Oasis/substitute-name-of-choice album while it was still in the charts.

Slightly off topic, but your kids may never hear these sounds:

Rotary dial telephone.
Gas station driveway bell.
TV station sign-off.
Cash register.
Film projector.
Flash cube.
Manual typewriter.

That's right. You're a geezer. :D

Like a million other kids, my main HS job was at McDonalds. It was great, a flexible schedule to allow me to play sports (Hockey Practice, Games), $1.10/hr. (most jobs were paying $0.80/hr.), and all you can eat !

This was the original style restaurant with the 'Golden Arches' shooting through the roof and out to the parking lot. The sign read: "Over 2 Million served"...

My first day, I spent in 'McSchool', learning all their products and practices. This consisted of 4 hrs. watching 'Filmstrips' which I had to operate whenever the tape recorder beeped.

For the next 4 hrs., the 'manager' (all of 20) took me to two 100 lb. sacks of Idaho Russet potatoes. He said: " Peel em, cut em (in some weird machine where I placed them end first, pulled a lever and 'French Fries' came out), Blanche them (2 min. in boiling water), and then store them in this walk-in Freezer..." Yep... McDonalds was using Real Potatoes !

All there was were Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers (and doubles) and Filet of Fish sandwiches (cooked in the same fry vats as the fries and apple pies). Shakes were made from soft-serve. You added whatever syrup (flavor) was ordered, then put the cup on a mixer to blend it.

The goal was to become a Grillman and get back on the grill. On the grill, everything was ordered in dozens, so you'd put up a dozen burgers say, and then could sit in the backroom until another dozen something were needed, while the others had to stand 'stations'. Another plus was that you could smoke behind the grill because of the fan hoods. If an ash dropped on a burger, you just flipped it over, and the ash was 'magically' washed off by the grease... that burger went up with the rest of the dozen for sale.

I remember when the Big Mac was introduced - another 2 hrs. of 'Filmstrips', and the 'Apple Pie' - only 45 min. filmstrip to demonstrate the proper way of dropping it in the Fry Vat for 3 min.

Still, it was a great job, your friends would come in, order a small coke and leave with a grocery-sized bag full of burgers, fries, whatever. You got to chat up all the cute girls, and... if you had a good one, the manager would buy beer and alcohol for you !!

cheers!

That'll be Lee Ving......
Lee Ving on a jet plane !!!!!!!
don't know when I'll be back again
Apparently John Denver knew him and there was no way he was getting on his plane, if he hadn't been on that jet plane, he may well have been back again instead of taking too flying his own plane, just a theory

Which Atari? 2600, 5600, or 7800? Jaguar?

I've played and coveted just about every vintage game system out there. There was a vintage game store about 2 miles from my house and I used to hang out there all the time. Now it's a sub shop.

Anyways, I'd say the best experience was the Virtual Boy and the worst experience was Colecovision.

Uff. I am too old to remember. I received a Atari or a Atari like game console second hand from my cousin who had stopped using it and the only came I remember playing was Space Invaders. I haven't seen that console for more than twenty years, quickly forgot it when I got Nintendo NES, Paperboy was my favourite game wich is kind of Ironic that decade later I worked as a paperboy and hated it.

I just have to say that Paperboy is one of my all time favorites for the original Game Boy.

I occasionally will get that song stuck in my head.

I didn't feel old until a buddy of mine emailed me this ad from a old music store we frequented in the late 60's.Image
