Howdy!

Music - a Healer? Just wondering what you good folks have to say about this subject.

I've been in a lot of pain recently and to help relax and zone out I've been listening to the truly beautiful music made by Andrew Othling, a sample of which can be found in the link below.

Lowercase Noises - A Gold Earring from his new EP - Passages.

Music as a healer? For me possibly not, but its doing a bloody good job of making be feel better about things at the moment! :D

Cheers!

Andy

Well I don't know if there's anything scientific but I know without my guitar I would have struggled to beat my drug habit and get through the crippling anxiety and panic attacks that came with it. Same as you it helped relax me and ale my mind off of it.

It has been known to cure rockin' pneumonia and the boogie woogie flu.

I have suffered from intense chronic pain for over 20 years and music-especially classical-has really helped take my mind off it too many times to count. My favourite rock music such as Jimi and the Beatles has also taken the burden of pain from me countless times.
When you're in pain, whether you realize it or not, your whole body tenses up which exascerbates the problem.Music tends to calm the mind which in turn causes the muscles that were tensed up from the pain,to relax. These days many paliative care centres and rehabilitation centres use music to calm and relax patients who are under the stress of having to cope with what often is excrutiating pain.

I have been heavily involved with a province-wide chronic pain association and am the past Chair and Vice-Chair and after doing extensive reaserch into the causes, treatment and all else to do with chronic or long term pain,I am sure that music not only plays a psychological factor in reducing pain but also can physically relieve it by helping to relax hyper-tense muscles that have gone into spasm etc. due to intense pain, consequently lessening the pain.

Andy(Guitarslinger too),
Take two Vollenweider selections and call me in the morning.
http://youtu.be/FUuqb0jsMBg I am not making lite of your agony, just sharing some headphone meds. In a quite room with the lights low and headphones on I can close my eyes and decompress.
So yes Andy, music does sooth the savage (or put him straight to sleep).

HTH,
John.E

John E.,I prefer Mozart's Violin Concertos...lol.... as played by Itzhak Perlman or Ann Sophie Mutter-especially the Adagio from the Violin Concerto No. 3 in D maj. or Paganini's Violin Concerto No. 1 Opus No. 6 in D Maj. by Ilya Kaler or the great Salvatore Accardo.Cheers.

BTW: The Adagio from Paganini's Concerto is sublime too-there must be something about Adagios from violin concertos in D Maj.

i agree 100%. music has gotten me thru some very difficult times.

listening to dead songs like "ripple", "box of rain", and "brokedown palace" always let me realize that there are better days ahead.

on the other hand, i can't listen to "alone again, naturally" guy gets left at the altar, then loses his mom and dad. bummer

Music helps and it has no side effects and no risk of overdose. I think there is more science to support music as a pain reliever than many other "home" remedies.

Yes. Getting the frequency correct is a form of therapy all it's own.

Music can inspire good feelings, good thoughts as well I think. Perhaps, if what I think is possible, that can result in a better internal evironment which could help in the healing process. So, a little music couldn't hurt :D As the actual healer of illness, music all by itself, I don't know. A pro from the medical community might have a more definite answer. 8)

Healing Through Sound Waves

Millemetre wave therapy is a new revolutionary method in health care.

CEM-Tech is a new small handheld therapy instrument, recently introduced in Europe from Russia. It communicates directly with the cells in the body using millimetre wave technique. It is based on many years of research and has passed several studies showing its effectiveness. CEM-Tech has also an approval as Medical Instrument Class CE2A.

The CEM-Tech has shown to be effective in the areas of immune system normalization, increased micro circulation and balancing the metabolism. It reduces ageing, reduces the healing time for stroke and brain haemorrhages, decreases the healing time for wounds, and bone fractures by 2 – 3 times.

The CEM-Tech can also be used for electronic inoculations against tuberculosis, type C hepatitis and other diseases, Healing Through Sound Waves
