I agree with Ceri. We can't penalise genuine new users posting pic's because of one persistent troll. Think of all the new user joining up to share the news of their latest purchase, followed by their 24 post response after one of us said "Pic's or it didn't happen"

Sorry to disagree, Andy but I don't really see that as being a problem for the board. I can certainly see how it might be a problem for an impatient newbie but not for the forum. The whole idea behind board rules and the presence of moderators is to do what is best for the board so that individuals don't spoil it for the majority. If a newbie gets his(her) nose out of joint because he can't wait to build up a measly 25 post count before he starts posting pics then that's a positive indication right there that he may very well end up becoming a problem child. We could very likely end up being grateful in the long run for an early warning system like that. IMO there is no downside to a "No Pics until 25 Posts" rule.

No doubt. Why even sign up if you don't intend on making 25 posts, anyway?

Some people sign up for authentication info seeking "what year" and "is it real" type answers. Others for repair/adjustment advice. After they get that info you never see them again till they need answers again. Being able to see their photos or links to their photos is vital to aiding them.

(seriously tho) Thanks all!

By the way, Rob: I used to read your posts many years ago on fenderforum.com. I think it's so cool that you've sometime felt like looking in here and helping folks out with stuff like their serial number queries - even before your grand promotion to Moderator! Lot's of us really appreciate it, so thank you too. :D

The spirit of the thing is what's best about all of this. 8)

Cheers all - C

We just had one of these in the P forum, for instance.

Maybe for the guitarists it might get a little tedious. Things are a little more chill in the P forum, I guess. 8)

Hi All, First, thanks for the nice comments. Second, it should be pointed out, especially since Brad said all those nice things about me (exaggerations!!!) that Brad has many other things that Fender depends upon him for and the very fact that he admirably has moderated much of this Forum pretty much single-handledly since inception speaks volumes to his own coolness.
Pictures? Personally, I'm of the school of thought that many new people come to this forum for help and info and sometimes a picture is all that will do it (well, yes, going to brotherdave's site as well :D ) I hope that we want to encourage that and encourage more enthusiasts to join in. I'm also of the school of thought that if someone wants to disrupt, be a joik, or be generally a pain, they will find a way to do that--pics or no.
At any rate most of the pictures posted seem to be responsible and on topic, aside from the occasional "Canned Dehydrated Water (Kidding!) and newb moderator slip-ups Image

So we're gonna get on the moderation thing a little more and I think all will be well.
(Better........(better better)
All the best to all,
rob

Or do you have to draw the line somewhere? I understand that next might come posts requesting a Lounge FV3 modified Fiddle and a Lounge FB58 modded Banjo.

How about a Lounge Juice Harp and a Lounge One Cup Coffee Maker!

Lounge bass . I love it. Second class citizens asking for recognition. Second class by treatment, not nature. :D

Believe me, if a Lounge Bass existed I'd buy one myself so I can certainly understand the appeal. I can't state what is and is not doable on that topic at this point as we've not really navigated the topic internally. BUT if there's interest here best thing to do would be to start coming to terms as to the type of price range folks feel they'd be able to digest and, realistically, how many takers we think we'd have. The effort would have to be a bit more universally embraced in terms of folks stepping forward to purchase than the "Forum t-shirt" project from a few years back. If you want to transition this particular discussion back over to the FSR thread I'll try to start checking on on that one a bit more actively than I have been.

Well done Rob, you have always been there firsthand with valuable info for those who wanted more detail on their mysterious fenders. It shows your passion for Fender is there when you did this off your own steam. I'm glad we have two moderators now and that there are two sets of eyes combing the forum for spam and posters of firestorm teles..

I'm sure it will, Rob, thanks to you and Brad and the other good folks at Fender. :)

I think that we as members can also do our part by reporting spam as soon as we see it. To make this easier may I suggest that the Report Button be disabled (greyed out) once a post has been reported as spam. This way everyone logged in will know the post has been reported without clicking on the ! only to see "This post has already been reported"

Cheers!

I have been away from the Forum for a while due to travel and work. I read this whole thread with interest as I was on the receiving end of the "Firestorm" troll. The suggestions made have been great. I was just going to write the same suggestion that was quoted above. We all can due are part as a team to rid ourselves of non-robot trolls. I am hoping some of the new security features that were alluded too have been put in place.

Darn, really a bummer that things can't be discussed with an open mind, a desire to learn and share. Some people are just so insecure that they can't dare be wrong, questioned, or open-minded. Even though I joined this Forum years ago, I became more active as people were emailing me and asking me to give some input here. I found this a great place to be and made some really great friends in the process. The pain caused by trolls does make the Forum less enjoyable, but then again I think the greatest satisfaction one can give such an individual is to stop coming here. I have learned a lot from people on the Forum. I am sure with the great guys at Fender such as Brad, Rob and others, we will rid ourselves of those who do not want to honestly contribute, be only seek to cause problems.
