I recently got a singer and a bassist for a full band. The problem is that we're good, but we don't have that wow factor. I want some help in converting a song to barre/power chords. I don't know if I could do it on my own, but I think this would leave crowds, especially at the kinds of shows we all go to, simply stunned, or just laughing and having a good time. And, we're all a funny bunch, so I figured we could have some hilarious memories. I may be out sick tomorrow, so I may be able to work on this first thing in the morning. I'm just looking for guidance for this band competition. (January 5th) I almost want this to be a secret weapon.

Thanks.

Intro- Fm Ab C# C

Verse- Fm C7 Fm Bbm C C7

Chorus- C# Eb C Fm Bbm C C7

There's too many minors and sevenths for you. With your random style of tuning and playing, it would be almost impossible to do a recognizable version of the song.
Those are basically the chords though, maybe the bandmates will have the patience to work with you.

Hadn't seen that video since it came and went. Looks like no hetero men were harmed in the filming of that video.

A power chord version would be possible if a groove was maintained. Without that solid downbeat the song would be unrecognizable, IMO.

Don't worry, your secret is safe with me.

I think you forget that I'm only keeping the lyrics and rebuilding the song from the ground up.

I said I wanted help converting the song to power/barre. It's not what's used in the song. I just worded it differently using "rebuild from the ground up" And yes, I'm prepared for you to cut me down for being a smartass or whatever you want to call me.

Anyways, more or less actually converting it. I don't know how this process goes.

Ok well, I don't know what a powerchord is (or care), but the song can be easily played using basic barre chords. You just need major, minor, seventh chord shapes which you can move up the fretboard.
I can't tell you exactly where to put your fingers because you have this odd tuning thing which you seem perfectly happy with. The trouble with this is, you're pretty much on your own musically. Even your bandmates are going to be confused most of the time.
If you're just using the lyrics and your own chords, then what help do you need?
I don't know what else I can say. I hope someone can help you out.
Good luck.

He converted it to barre chords for you already but those include the minors and 7ths. If you want to play it in power chords just take the single note names and play those as power chords like you already know how to do. Make a metal version of it if you will. 8)

I wouldn't call it odd anymore. I re did it months ago. It's sort of an open thing. Basically, slightly dropped with my fat E tuned to the same pitch as my A, acting as a buffer. (it tends to get in the way.)

I have nothing against open/alternative tunings. It's just the communication side of it that may cause you hassles. It's your responsibility to know what key, note or chord you are playing. A dropped note here or there may not seem like much but it will radically change whatever you play.
There's a lot to be said for standard tuning and regular chords - that is, we all speak the same language.
If you are keen to pursue music, which you seem to be, then I strongly urge you to get a tuner and go back to the basics. Even if you just keep one of your guitars in standard tuning and put in the practice regularly.
You talk the talk, but this lazy attitude is holding you back.
Be offended or take it on board. It's up to you.
...Mark.
(normally I wouldn't bother,but I'm approaching my 1000th post  )

I don't have a lazy attitude, though. I just don't want to be talked down to by yet another teacher. Plus, I'd probably not get what I want out of a tuner or lessons. I'd probably become the same angry person I was before I started playing because of the stress of learning. (I'm not every good academically, and quite frankly, not very good at anything)

You're a smart, witty guy buxom and you have a lot going for you. If you recognize that box bang is giving you good, valuable advice it would go a long way for you and your playing.

Yeah Cool,
I'm not a teacher by any stretch of the imagination. I've started a few youngsters on the road to becoming players.
I too experience frustration from not being able to play stuff (due to my own laziness)
