I purchased my first all-tube amplifier today. It's a Fender Super Champ X2, and so far, I am in tube-tone heaven. :D And I did it under orders from the lady of the house. She wanted my old crappy beat-up Marshall 8240 Valvestate for her own nefarious purpose (she plays an acoustic instrument with one string called a dan bau that requires serious amplification).

I played through some other amps today, including a Vox Valvetronix, and considered buying a Bugera V22 online, but the Super Champ was definitely the most bang for the buck, especially since it was on sale.

Unfortunately, my Photobucket account seems to have vanished, and it won't let me slide the arrow to prove I'm human so I can set up a new account, so I'm trying Flickr. (There you have it, proof that I'm not human. )

Oh yeah. That's what we're talkin' about.

I made a copy of your amp and uploaded it to my PB account so I could post it here for you, Wolf. Will my puter explode?????????

Enjoy. What does N.A.D stand for? I'm a noob here.

Thanks to both. My champ is the same color. Pic is one I posted for Spacewolf. His PB account is hosed.

Guess I should have figured that acronym out. Won't kick myself in the 'nads  for missing it though.

Well, they aren't "all tube" amps as the OP has stated. The tube snobs will look down their noses at them due to the presence of substantial ss circuitry, but I judge by the sound, not the way it was achieved. These sound pretty good IMO.

They aren't? :? Quoting the specs from Fender - "15 Watt tube power amp with two 6V6 tubes. 12AX7 preamp tube." Are you referring to the circuitry for the onboard effects or the modeling? I guess that must be solid state, but with tubes in the both the preamp and the power amp, I assumed that made it a tube amp. And yes, the tone is beautiful. Even if someone convinced me right now that's not really a tube amp, I would still keep it and still feel like I got a good deal. I'm a happy camper. :D

Thanks much, modwiz! No explosions are imminent at this time, feel free to stand down from alert status.

Good enough for most of us, spacewolf: I think you've got a tube amp - with extras! And the green tolex is a deal closer. Very cool!

Enjoy - C

Go NAD! Wait...that doesn't sound right...

Anyway, happy New Amp Day--she's a beaut! I love the flat Fender logo, the wheat grill cloth and the surf green tolex!

...and don't let anyone get you down regarding the fact that it's partially solid state (effects portion)...most modern tube amps have solid state rectifiers and aren't "100% tube" (as compare to the 1950's) anyway...

If it sounds good and you're happy, it doesn't matter if it's powered by a choir full of baritone hamsters...

Quoting from Fender TSL ( viewtopic.php?f=27&t=76879&p=904721&hilit=Super+Champ+X2+tube#p904721 ): The Fender SuperChamp X2 has a tube power section and a solid state pre-amp section.
Yes, there is a preamp tube, half of which works w/ the ss circuitry for preamp. The other half is a PI (phase inverter).
None of these facts should influence your opinion of the SCX2, only your ears!
