:D NGD for me.

almost totally unexpected. ive had a hankering for a guitar along the lines of this for a while, but my fender love took over and its all ive been buying (apart from a gorgeous seagull 12 string).

however i knew there was space for something with twin humbuckers and a meatier sound than my fenders can give me, so a Les Paul was on the cards. now as i said at the start, im not even in a band, so i dont know why i brought 2 more guitars this year, but hey ho, its xmas  bearing this in mind i wasnt going to buy a Gibson, so Epi it was.

and my mate works in the shop and saved me some cash.

so here it is, Epiphone Les Paul Standard Pro. apparently the colour is 'Lavender' - i dont know who names Gibsons colours, but they need their eyes checking.

sorry about the bad pics, need some daylight really. i played a Gibson les paul junior, which did feel better, but the the tv/custard yellow colour is not my cup of tea, and i like the feel of a mid range epi to having a poverty spec gibson.

im really impressed with the coil tap on the pickups. ive never had coil tap, thought it was a bit of a gimmick, but it really makes a difference. the neck is real nice. i also played an epi 335, a 339 and a gretsch jet, and this LP beat them all hands down.

but, then my mate uttered those words "we do finance, 0%"

so i ended up buying these aswell

sounds absolutely incredible. single tube, sounds mega. we plugged it into a marshall 4/12 cab in the shop and it was ridiculous. even through the little orange cab it sounds mega.

and the money my mate knocked off the deal for me, means i got the head unit for free, pretty much :D :D :D :D he also done me a padded bag and threw in a speaker cable to hook the head up with.

thanks for the comments. the guitar is brand new, indonesian made according to the sticker. i cant find anything wrong with it. i might have got lucky though, because the 339 i tried had a really bad feel to the frets which is what put me off the most, and the fretboard looked and felt dry. also the gibson les paul i played had some of that baked maple on the neck apparently - was nowhere near as nice as proper maple or rosewood, but it was better than the cheap, dry, rough rosewood on the epi 335 and 339.

really loving the guitar. the first electric i brought was a cheap LP copy, which was actually quite good but then i brought my 72 custom tele, and the LP copy got sold to pay for more fenders  so my new guitar brings back familiar ground, especially accommodating to my big chubby fingers

the amp, well, i dont know what to say. it sounds immense, even through the tiny little orange cab. the cab + head is actually smaller than my old little non valve practice amp, but as you would expect is about a million times louder. the sound is pure crunchy, none of that super high gain saturated crap, just crunch all the way. the breakup is very progressive, and the clean sounds are glorious.

to be honest, it might even be too loud just for bedroom jamming, with the gain knob turned past half way, you have to turn the master volume all the way off, then tweak it just until the sound comes out and then stop. any further and its too loud  obviously the less gain you use the more master volume you can use. so basically at bedroom levels you have to really balance them out between each other.

im now going to go and see how the aux input works and what i can do with it and the headphones.

edit - heres a photo to show the size, as you can see its basically exactly as tall as a tele body. you can also see where the knobs are. that was a comfortable level for bedroom jamming along to music.

Interesting - Epiphone is not made in Indonesia as far as I am aware. China, and Japan. It used to be Korea until 2002 when the Epiphone (Gibson) owned plant in China went into full time production.

ive peeled the sticker off now, as it was the one thing that did look cheap and lame. i wouldnt have minded if it was stamped or printed.

however im 100% sure i saw the indonesian sticker on the back of the 339, and even though youve planted a seed of doubt in my mind, im 99% sure there was one on my les paul.

just googling, according to wiki, Indonesia is being used, probably the Samick factory, apparently. in fact, having just checked my serial number ive confirmed it.

it was built May 2012 in the Indonesian factory, number 7062.

Hi guys: the serial number should reveal where it was made. There are several different letter codes that indicate Indonesia. More info here:

http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topi ... de-part-3/

Any of that relate to your serial number, Moochy?

Cheers - C

I don't need it, can't really afford it, but it didn't stop me!
- my GAS mantra!

Beautiful looking guitar Moochy!

I have an Orange Tiny Terror, and that is also very loud - but that isn't something for me to complain about, just the neighbours! Love the sound though.

Looks like a really nice setup, hope you enjoy it for a long time to come.

Your right, Some are still made in Indonesia. Really nice Blue Burst you have, along with all the other stuff. Your going to have a lot of fun with that rig. Best to you mate.

i have found a problem.

the shape/design of the knobs doesnt make it easy to pull them up for the coil tap. in fact you have to get your finger/fingernail under the knob to have any chance of pulling them up.

not exactly the end of the world, and easily changeable.
