How does the mustang iii sound at lower volumes? The purpose of me upgrading amp is that I want one a bit louder for when practicing with friends, but can also be used in my bedroom at lower volumes! 100watt seems a bit powerful for what I want.

I think it sounds great at any volume.

The one reason for the 100 watts is if you DO get to jam some where, you'll need to crank it up to shout over the bass/drums etc.. the 40watt is going to get really sterile sounding once you start to push it.

the 100Watt has plenty of punch so you don't have to push the power amp into the realm where it gets that nasty Solid State FIZZ..

plus the MIII stocks a better speaker to handle the added wattage AND an LCD for the user interface is much better than what is offered for the MII, or MI

MII vs. MIII for me, it was a no brainer!

It sounds pretty good at low volumes, but I find it can be a pain to adjust the volume that low. The slightest turn of the knob can make it too loud, and you try to turn it back down and it's too quiet. Also, you mentioned having an amp with effects that gave you that 'fuzzy' sound. You could very well experience the same with a Mustang III (although mine has been fine to my ears).
