i was wondering something the other day. Do thinner guage strings rust faster? I had the issue in the past so i switched to thicker strings, but was never really sure. (We're talking super light 9's)

No, they don't rust faster but they do get stretched out faster if you do lot's of bends.

I've always used 9 gauge and never saw any rust on my strings. I can go anywhere from a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on how much I've been playing. I jam with some people, so when I do.......I'll change more often.

I've had a string breakage problem, at the bridge, so I'll change more often because of that, than anything else. I've gotten some very fine emery cloth type sanding paper to smooth out the bridge, and when I change strings, I pup a very light amount of 3 in 1 oil (with Q-tips) on the bridge, before I put new strings on. That seems to help the problem quite a bit.

It's a fact, lighter strings usually don't last as long as bigger strings (
as far as breakage goes, that is).

Once i moved up to 12's, I haven't had any problems with my strings breaking. And they did last noticeably longer than my old 9's.
