Phil, there were a number of models during the 90s. I think the specs within models changed subtly too. The believe MIM Standard was pretty much the same throughout the 90s, but there was also classic reissues, deluxe models, some with HSS, others SSS - other folks here will I'm sure be able to give you the full skinny, but as a short answer, there were more than one!

Are you after a particular model?

This was an SSS model with Gold hardware.
I suspected the answer wouldn't be simple!
I am not after a particular model, just want a Strat to go along side my Tele and hopefully after Xmas a Les Paul if the stocking is big enough !!! That way I have three completely different sounding guitars covering most of the bases for now. Also of course want to judge if there were a wide range of prices and hence current value.

Thanks for the early response.

The Deluxe Player model has gold hardware and is SSS - there could be others that do though...

Does it have vintage noiseless pickups? Would be helpful if you had the serial number to (more or less) determine the year too

Well, most of the bases - apart from a 335 type guitar. And a big Gretsch. And a jazz box. And an SG.

And of course a Tele is great - but you need one with a humbucker at the neck too. And a second Les Paul with P90s. And another with mini-humbuckers. And something with magnetic pickups that can be blended with a piezo is important as well - a Parker Fly, say, or a Taylor T5. ...Or a Parker and a Taylor. And then a resonator - how can you even live without a National in your life?

And we're assuming you've already got a nice acoustic. But what about an electro, with a cutaway? And then you'll need a Spanish guitar for those moody nylon moments.

And talking of covering the bases; we haven't even started discussing basses yet. No guitarist should be without something with fat strings as well.

Oh my. I hope this Christmas stocking is a big one!

Good luck - C

you could probably do with a four string CBG... made from a donut tin. With EMGs. Coil tapped.

(p.s. I made this - CBGs are a cheap cure for GAS)

Hahaha - my work here is done! 8)

Seriously though, I was never much into SGs 'cause I didn't care for the looks. Till a guy let me try out his US Gibson model - oh man! I LOVE how that guitar feels in the hands! Fantastic! Wow!

Never yet owned one, but...

Cheers man - C

I would have thought that you would have Gibson SG with P-90s, like Pete. How could you not? :D

You haven't even scraped the surface of the array of bass guitars (and a stand up double bass,) that a guy needs to have if he wants to wear the username "Rockybottom"
