Here's the deal: I made a secret pact with fate that as soon as that thread reaches 175,000 views I will start a new one. I had been holding out for the quarter million, but it turns out only Miami Mike can run a thread that attracts that much traffic. We must learn humility.

Anyway. Now ya know...

No disrespect to Miami Mike, but I personally think that that thread was the greatest ever posted....

I agree!!!

Hee-hee! Though, with very friendly respect, I don't agree! :)

Miami Mike's Cancer and Chemotherapy thread several years ago was the one that made me realise; "Hello, this forum thing can be more than just geeky technical stuff. There's the possibility of taking things further." That was an extraordinary landmark thread in so many ways.

Chatting on an internet forum has its severe limitations. But still, it's a amazing how the human spirit for contact and community finds a way of bursting through. I think that's pretty cool! 8)

I've always enjoyed this forum and I've been visiting it since 2007! ...I like everybody. Everybody's got their own lens. I've learned a bunch and enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences here.

I've been lurking over at the Gibson, Blackstar, and thestompbox forums, plus the stores, just got an SG Worn Brown (NGD a week back) to go with my Hwy 1, the perfect complement to the Hwy 1.

...I should be over at the Digitech forums getting some midi instructions for the Whammy DT I just got (NPD on NGD, yo yo!), but I've been busy exploring various setups on the SG and thumbing through the Whammy DT.

I like all the sites.

The Gibson site is...funky. The SG section is quiet, which means everybody is happy, like me, the worn SG is an amazing guitar. The LP section is...funny, a bunch o' Les Paul geeks going deep. Their lounge is... lethargically sterile. They often discuss discussions about discussions and what flies here is sadly sometimes frowned upon there. Thankfully, I don't need to participate in their site. Whatever information I needed about the new SG was easily found, saved me a bunch of time.

Blackstar is just hummin' along and I've seen a lot of tolerance there, same with the rest but the rest not as controversial due their particular simplicity of product.

Fender is just...complex,which I like. Fender has the most...robust and diverse conversations going, my favorite site, for sure.

...if I had to pick just one site..., now that would be difficult!

...I wonder what would happen if all the sites just merged. In a sense, via the stores and their review sections, the number of stores dwindling, the "family of guitars" coming from fewer and fewer corporations, there is a convergence via the stores and manufacturers occurring. If the trend continues... Eventually, the whole thing will be done by robots via a few diverse facilities, drones cutting and picking up and dropping off trees, robots making the product, drones dropping off the product to us customers, satellite tracking, no more wait, you'll know exactly when ur Fender will land. We'll be discussing funny drone stories and buying consumer drones to bring us our guitars, polished and in-tune, ready to play, all done via one multi-product web interface, The Fender Drone showing up at ur side with a tele n' a strat and a sangwhich and a refreshing beverage!

Yep! That's the one in which we 'made our bones' and charted our course. The few others which came after that only proved our mettle....to be able to reach out and lend a hand.

I've lurked here for a while, it is an outstanding resource and a top group of people for the most part.

I don't post much, as there doesn't seem to be a lot to add usually. I have just started my first thread, more as a reaction to too many spam threads than out of anything useful to say.

I love:
- Ceri and his build threads (and wry sense of humour)
- Texasguitarslinger and her rise to fame and fortune
- Screamin' Armadillo and his adventures (with and without the Armadillo clan)
- ZZDoc and his knowledge of Human and Fender anatomies
- Solid Body Love Songs and his contributions
- All things Fender!
- Andybighair's socks
- Guitarslinger's abilities; his open discussion of frailties - that might have made him a target on other forums, here maturity and support rules, even to the point of some helpful advice
- Alainlafrance and his amazing collection of guitar porn (http://www.guitarmotel.com)
- Pappawookie - well mostly for his name actually
- Everyone's pictures of beautiful gear
- Brad Traweek, Mike Eldred and all the Fender staff for ... umm, well, everything!
- The patience and tolerance of all those who answer the obvious questions people come here asking
- BMW-TM, Buxom, T2Stratman, Hou-Tex and too many others to mention, just for their comments, opinions and ability to be (reasonably) mature in the anonymous world of the interwebz
- The G.A.S. support network that this forum provides!

Thank you all, those mentioned and those not, for a wonderful place to invest so much time that I should be spending practicing!

Jono

I agree with everything you said except that Screamin' Armadillo guy--he's an idiot! :P

For a Noob like me, this forum has been a great help to me as I start my Guitar Journey.

I especially like how the 'older' members are willing to assist with questions I know must have been asked a thousand times before.

There have even been several nice follow-up PMs from individual members.

I moderate a couple internet car forums and there, a lot of the older members will direct noobies to the 'Search' function with a lengthy diatribe about not wasting time with redundant questions, instead of simply giving them what could often be a one-word answer they were seeking to begin with.

I'm happy that kind of hierarchy doesn't seem to be present here.

Looking forward to the day when my contributions can aid someone else just starting out.

cheers!

That's not what you said the other 23 times, Doc.
