OMG... Have you all seen this incredible clip on You Tube? 8)

I don't think anyone could play "Killing Floor" the way he did. I watched the video and then had to watch it again, thinking to myself, "how did he DO that"?!?

This track was the first thing I heard after going to going to my initial guitar lesson and being told to "listen to some Hendrix".. heh. Jimi plays Monterey.. I still have no idea what's going on there, 25 years later, and probably never will—but it makes me ridiculously happy every time...

hi , great number to listen to and play , it's been in the set for most of the bands i've played with for over 20 years , it's really quite easy once you get your head around it most if the hard work is in the strumming hand , just to demonstrate that it's relatively easy i showed my 15 year old nephew to play it and within 20 minutes he was rattling it off in an acceptable fashion 8) , cheers
Alan

According to legend, when Chas asked 'Cream' if Jimi could 'sit-in' on a few songs, it was 'Killing Floor' that blew Eric's mind.

Yup... I heard that too. Legend has it that Hendrix plugged into a spare input on Jack Bruce's bass amp, and launched into "Killing Floor", which the members of Cream knew but Clapton thought it was a difficult song to play properly. And again as legend would have it, Hendrix ended up blowing Clapton off the stage.

Edit: Here's the You Tube link about it...

Jimi's version of Killing Floor is one of the most incendiary pieces of guitar work ever played. He takes Hubert Sumlin's best riffs and embellishes them so heavily that he makes them his own.The first time that I saw and heard Jimi doing this,I was just floored by the way his hands moved so fluidly over the fret board,it was like watching a wizard at work.I spent many hours trying to nail down his most basic riffs to the song and even the most "easy" parts are almost prohibitively difficult, but it has become one of my favourite jam songs, the tempo of the song is just right for me to get a really good vibe going.

BTW: Eric Clapton absolutely adored Jimi and the two became fast friends.Eric was devastated when Jimi died because he had lost one of his most loved and respected friends.Clapton had gone to one of Jimi's last gigs in London, just days before his death. He had bought a left-hand Strat for Jimi-who played right hand Strats exclusively-thinking that maybe Jimi didn't know that there was a lefty model. He did know that but the flipped right hand Strat was essential for some of the effects that he coaxed from the guitar, especially on songs like Machine Gun and The Star Spangled Banner.Anyway Jimi didn't know that Eric was there that night and he took off right after his set to attend a party.E.C. took the guitar wiith him intending to give it to Jimi the next time he saw him but sadly he never saw him after that.

Clapton once said of Jimi: "Jimi Hendrix was a gift who stayed with us for a while and then went back with the other gods." Thats tremendous accolades considering who they came from.

Yes, that is true, and Jimi adored EC. When Chas brought Jimi to England, one of first things Jimi asked Chas was to introduce him to EC.

Here is a link to a recorded conversation between Jimi Hendrix & Eric Clapton March 16, 1967 at The Speakeasy, London for "Beat Instrumental"

Also Jack Bruce wrote 'Sunshine Of Your Love' because he was influenced by Jimi.

This is where having massive hands helps a lot. Jimi had huge hands and could easily fret bass notes on the sixth, fifth, and fourth strings. Most of us can fret the low bass string with our thumbs but getting the fifth string as well!!!

Anyway Hendrix was a rhythm master as this song exemplifies. Man he's a one man band! 8)
