Just had a soundcheck before playing a couple of (rather heavy) songs - for a Christmas concert -in a church . I thought this was under control , and felt fine , - but I had really difficulties hearing myself in the monitors . I play in a style which I am used to hear myself play , I find it rather necessary . So now I'm getting a bit more nervous than planned :? Just writing the nerves away :D Gotta go in a small hour. perhaps practice a bit more

Hope it's a great show. If you are nervous that means you care and are probably more ready than you think. Sending some mojo your way from the SF bay!

1st of all good luck at your gig. 2nd please forgive my ignorance.
i take it the amp is miked? who is running the sound board? basically, what is the set up?
i hate miking my amp which is why i use a 60 watt combo. it has more than enough volume for what we do. my amp only gets miked so the other guitar player can hear me better. i tell him to listen to the drummer and not worry about it. i can't hear him either but we know our parts and have no problem hearing bass and drums. we stand on opposite sides of the stage????????? he doesn't like standing on the same side which would solve the problem. maybe i stink.
miking the amp gives me a tinty, thin trebly tone that i despise. i'm all about the bottom end ( hee hee) and hate to eq my settings for small clubs where volume should not be an issue. i like folks and myself to hear the amp and guitar. NOT the amp and guitar thru a mike and the PA. to me the sound is as differnt' as night and day.
my lack of good advice is what makes me who i am. the jeebs.

Hi , jeebus !
A fellow musician in the audience said it sounded great , so I guess he is right. I did not hear a thing :?
Since this was kind of charity concert - we just slipped into the set-up that this church could offer. Really not bad - except from the monitoring issue. But , like you said - this was the modern way of doing it - small amps miked up , controlled by a big digital console. I played through an Vox AC 15 , which was great - but in this setting I'd preferred some more power

hej Asgeirman hur ar det min ven ? hope you had a great gig and those wee ac15's pack a bit of a punch for the size , was the amp at head hight or on a stand and was it angled at you ? if not just tell the sound man you need to 1 move the amp slightly to hear yourself or 2 turn up the guitar in your monitor , it's always handy to hear yourself , just a couple of hints for the next time the problem occurs mate , cheers
Alan

Hi , Alan :D Thanks - it was kinda great - my band playing punk-ish psychedelia about football - between a great male choir and some children, all singing christmas carols

The amp was unfortunately not angled or at head hight . We had our soundcheck , and I could not get any more sound in the monitor.Of course I asked for it. I guess this scene , in a church , with a very high level of acoustic , was not very well suited for our kind of music . Years ago I played piano in a wedding in a church. That was a bit more easy , sound wise :)

cheers

Thanks for your positive , encouraging posting , guys ! Appreciate it ! It was kind of exciting , this gig - the band was put together for the occasion , we had only one rehearsal together , and our songs were new , self composed . It turned out quite good , and we may be following the same track a bit further . There are more original songs to be performed
