Hello all,

I had been eyeing on some offsets, and decided that I wanted a Jaguar, but the aspects that I want are split between a few models. The single coil would have the red color and a cheaper price tag, compared to the HH having the versatility but in white/sunburst with $100 higher price tag.
People saying that single coil Jags will be painfully trebly made me shift toward the HH at first, but demos on Youtube persuaded me otherwise and made me lean toward the single coil in red.

I wanted to describe the full story in paragraphs, but the lack of organization skills discouraged me from doing so; hopefully it won't be perceived as rude that I provided my situation in a list.

1) I want a CP Jaguar. Preferably red.
2) Single coils are $100 cheaper than HH, and have the color I want
3) Local store only has my least liked color and in HH, and this has been hanging on the wall for a few months
4) Store owner offered me the "new" white HH at the same price as a new single coil Jag
5) Is the $100 discount a good deal for a guitar that's been hanging on the wall for a few months? I don't dislike the white, just favor it less than the red or the burst.
6) Would it be cheaper to get the white HH and repaint it red, or get the red single and rout it to house singles, humbuckers, p90 and maybe even Jazzmaster pickups? Although both are unlikely to happen, I'm curious to know.

Please share your knowledge and opinions!

Thank you in advance,

BC

White grows on you, after a while that will be the only guitar you play, IMHO YMMV.
If you don't feel the $100 discount is enough for a wallflower ask the dealer to throw in a hardcase and a curly cord :D

Look is important, but takes a back seat to playability. Jaguars are awesome. I had the black and chrome HH model from a few years ago and absolutely loved it. one of the best tones i've ever heard. but, like anything, i've played a few more of that same exact model and it didn't have quite the same magic in it. I had to sell the Jag when I was having some financial trouble... and i regret it every day. anyway, don't settle. for anything. ever. if you want the one that costs more, get it. don't get something you WANT LESS because it COSTS LESS. words to live by right there, sir. :)

I actually do like the guitar. However, I was curious to know if the $100 discount for a display is a fair deal, a good deal, or something that's expected anyways and I'm just getting too excited by it. Does anyone have an advice regarding this kind of situation?

If you are willing to shop for a used one from an ebay seller with a return policy, you can save yourself some $$. While there are differences from guitar to guitar, I think the quality control Fender exercises on the MIM guitars is excellent.

it's a good deal as long as you still think the guitar is worth the money. i just recently got a 60s classic series fender strat (in CAR) for 508 $ out the door because it had been hanging there for around 2 years, the shop was closing out some inventory, it had a few small dings (but none on the front of the guitar) , it had the selector switch tip missing, AND most importantly, i'm a well-known customer who was told that if i was interested in anything, they'd get me a good deal while things were kind of slow. :) price one of those anywhere else and you'll see i got a crazy deal. and the thing plays just as good as it did two years ago when i first picked it up in the store and played it.
