I only have a couple of inexpensive guitars, but I treat 'em like they're gold. I know that for a lot of guitarists they're just tools, and I know they're not all fragile and dainty, but if I were supplying this pretentious, bloated slob with guitars and then saw this, I might be thinking he's got all the gear he needs.

Yngwie has been playing for over 30 years - and he's no studio hider, he has liked to tour and play all the way back to Alcatrazz. So,

1. Being Yngwie and playing for this long, it is easy to accumulate many guitars (he has hundreds iirc).

2. He plays Fender Strats (usually his signature with scalloped fretboard) almost exclusively so it is assured that he gets a few for free. :)

3. This is the same guy who throws the guitar around his neck and tosses them up into the air. He misses on occasion. ;)

Basically, when you play as much as he does for as long as he has you don't pamper several 'special' guitars. Some people do, like B.B. King. Many don't. The guitar is a musical instrument, yes. It is also a tool - and tools get abused to get the job done. Yngwie can do whatever he wants with his guitars. Peter Townshend used to smash his guitar after every show - and this was before they were big and rich.

Hi Jim, you might be seeing the vid w/o sound, scroll down for the talking tour.

Kuro, you are absolutely right, they're his and he can treat them as he pleases. It's just the twisted way I see things I suppose that it's hard for me to watch him take what he says is a '54, "one of the first 10" and clunk it into the pile with the others. Like I said at the top, they are indeed the tools of his trade, but I know plenty of other tradesmen who take much better care of their tools, even if they haul them around in the back of a pickup truck betwen jobs.

I really think that even if I had an endless supply of guitars, I'd take better care of them, but, I'm just crazy that way I suppose.

noley, thanks very much for an excellent and revealing series of videos.

I'm with you on this guitar respect thing........I'm sure you would agree with John Hiatt also (note: listen all the way through, the last lyrics are the best):
