Hello Helpful Online Peeps,

I have an Ultimate Chorus that I've been gigging with for a couple of years without any problems (other than some smoldering that had to be done on the board a couple of years back) but came across an issue at a show that I can't really figure out. My amp was miked and about halfway through the show, it started to feedback. The normal adjustments in volume didn't work, and I had to shut the amp off completely before it stopped. The only way to get it to play without the sound was to turn my treble down almost completely. I was able to get through the rest of the set but I'm a bit worried about our upcoming show having the same issue. I've played with a number of time at practices since, without any problems.

Any thoughts? I would be eternally grateful.

Baron

Do you mean the older version of the Ultimate Chorus from the early 90's? Mine was (and continues to be) bullet-proof, did you try a different guitar with the amp to see if it's a problem with the guitar?

I'm also wondering if the feedback would have been there if you shut the mic off (problem with the PA?). I just know these amps to be very reliable, thinking your problem might be coming from another source...

Strings,

thanks for the response! It's the older version and I don't think it's an issue with the guitar (I was using a new Gibson SG and I've also played with it on other amps without issue). I'm hoping that it was a problem with the PA but I'm not certain. Either way, I don't understand why turning down my treble (and my reverb seemed to help).

I own this amp (mid 90's version) and I have to agree with strings. Not sure why it would feedback. I was going to suggest a mic too. I gigged with mine a handful and never had any trouble with it.

Before you adjusted the treble and reverb, was it squealing even if you turned the volume on the guitar all the way off?

Yeah, the feedback was happening if I turned down the guitar and even if I turned down the master volume on the amp.
