Some of you may remember, my wife was so pleased with me in June, she told me to go buy a new guitar. I decided not to squander this valuable oportunity and took my time deciding. I almost bought an EC Strat Custom Shop in Daphne Blue, but a deposit was put on it the day before I found it. I was close to ordering a PRS. I ended up ordering a Carvin. It took six weeks and was delivered yesterday. It's a bit out of the ordinary. Here's some specs:
CS424S, solid mahogany body, plain maple top, ebony fretboard, 14" radius, 24 frets, Stainless Steel Jumbo wire, heeless set neck design, contoured body, splittable pups. Honey Burst satin finish on top, natural satin finish on body and neck.

Wow! She's pretty! Carvin pickups are supposed to be great from reports I've read and the whole guitar is supposed to be of top quality.Congrats.
BTW:There has to be truth to these reports, if not they wouldn't have lasted for over 50 years.

Sweet looking axe. And not only has Carvin been around for 50 years, but do you ever see one for sale? Nope...and you only see a few hundred of em even on FleaBay.

Nice choice.

A thing of beauty, indeed. Congrats. :!:

I don't know what you did in June but whatever it was do it again and maybe you'll get that EC Strat Custom Shop.

Cheers!

Nice pictures, what a beauty. That finish looks awesome. I'll bet she plays as good as she looks. 8)

Thanks everyone. I have to say that the build quality of this guitar is flawless. I can't find a thing wrong with it. The combination of the satin finish, ebony board and SS frets makes this guitar feel like I'm ice skating when I play. I'm really surprised at how different it feels. There's a definite chime on the upper notes that none of my other guitars have. I'm thinking it's the SS frets. It's not a bad thing, but it's definitely there. I'll get a better feel for the sound at rehearsal Monday night.
One other thing, it weighs 9# 6oz., which is about 2# more than either my Strat, Tele or chambered LP. I can handle it, but I can feel the extra weight. I think this is going to be a good candidate for trying out my Bonamassa / Seymour Duncan pickups, eventually. The pups that came with it, S22's, sound very good, so I'm not in a hurry to pull them out.
