Yeah, Danzig is waaaaayyyy too much of a prima donna for that. I don't know. I think when Jerry let's go of the band it'll be over. As long as he's around he'll probably keep it going. However, without him I don't think there's anyone else dedicated enough to keep it going.

Which is kinda sad. They're great people. They really care about the fans.

I love this album. It's the best of the Graves material.

It's true that he didn't try to replace Glen and brought his own thing to the band, but when I saw them live in 1999, I found that he did treat the Danzig era material with respect - he stayed very close to the way Danzig himself would have performed this music. You can't compare the two lineups though - it'd be like comparing Pantera and Damage Plan... half the original members were involved and did a similar thing, but the sound was different.

Doyle is by far one of the best guitarists of the punk era. I find it's a shame he's left the group, but also very cool to find that he and Danzig had reconciled.

Some people accuse Only of being greedy and commercializing the Misfits in much the same way that Paul and Gene have done with Kiss; but I feel he really does care about his fans and appreciates what they've given him by buying the albums, merch and concert tix over the years.

I know this is one of the reasons Danzig holds so much contempt towards Only and refuses to even consider a reunion (the other might be that he's still bitter about how they won the court battle for the rights to the band's name and material). He knows full well that it'd be a very profitable tour for all involved. I have to respect his views since he obviously doesn't give a damn about the cash - but I can't help but think that there is something to be said for giving your fans what they want. At the same time, given the way Danzig reacts to the mere mention of Only's name, I suspect that his reuiniting with The Misfits would mean the death of one of them.

In a broad sense, I hope, generally speaking the bands posted appear to be punk oriented. I'm not an experienced listener of those bands though I do listen to this punk band:

SS DECONTROL - Nothing done.

"Punk" is a very subjective term in some respects. The Misfits are part of the original generation of punk. They are most definitely part of the standard. To some purists the band above wouldn't even be considered "punk" as it owes more to the second wave of left coast punk. It's kind of like Goth. (which ironically now days people link more with Metal or Techno, but originally was an offshoot of punk) There are no real steadfast rules as to what IS "punk" anymore. (which is how it should be) Mostly because punk really wasn't a style of music, but more a sub-culture movement that the music was born out of. Here's the last punk band I was in. We were shooting for that late 70's Bowery sound, and I think we did a fairly good job of it. This song is NSFW, btw.

The word "punk" when referring to music can now mean anything from The Ramones to Blink 182, or from The Dead Kennedys to Alkaline Trio. It's a pretty broad genre.

Thanks, now I'm gonna have nightmares!

Her songs were much better when the original artists did them.
I remember the first time I heard "Bad Romance" in the car with my girlfriend. I was like..."Wait, Isn't that an ABBA song?!" She just looked at me like I was crazy.

I think it could also just be differences in personality between Only and Danzig.

Glen, wether you care for him or not, is an artist. To him, The Misfits likely represent a point in his career and development as an artist that he might wince at. While the band is definitely legendary and important. From an artistic standpoint it'd be like staying in the 3rd grade forever.

Only on the other hand likely believes in the band as an organization. What they stood for, and he thinks that should last. He's more of the blue collar member of the band. For him it's about building something worthwhile. The Misfits as an experience. It's something that is bigger then him, bigger then Glen, it's something that includes the fans. Not as much about expressing himself, but as creating something endurable. (maybe, this is all just conjecture but it's what I've gathered of the men over the years of listening to them and following their careers)

Neither are necessarily wrong. It's just about what the band represents to them.

In the end, if Danzig were to have stayed in the Misfits the band would have had to grow with him. Meaning that they would have left punk behind. If the band hadn't changed, he would have been miserable and it would have either destroyed the band or him. If the band had changed, they would have really ceased to exist as the band they once were. Possibly elevating them to an almost Clash like status but moving more toward metal instead of world music. Or possibly falling into obscurity and dissolving.

While I'm fairly harsh in my criticisms of Danzig, and fairly forgiving of the band and their post-Danzig work. I don't begrudge Glen. He had to do what he needed to do as an artist. Sometimes that's hard to accept, but it is what it is. The only criticism I can make of Jerry Only is that he should have learned that sometimes, when dealing with a legacy like the Misfits, that it's better to release nothing then to do something that doesn't live up to the legend. I think he's worried that people will forget the Misfits if they stop, and he may be right. However, I think he's released some questionable material that he would have been better off saving until he had a solid, quality line up, and did it right.

JMO, of course.
