Lost In Space is the best song off of the album. Such a different energy than the rest of the album. I'm not a huge fan of dropped tuning, but Doyle did it right.

I was more or less trying to get a discussion on this specific album.

I could take it or leave it. This album marked a definitve turn for the band, imo. Not saying it's a bad turn. I like the 50's rehashed progressions more than the late Danzig era stuff where the band had devolved from a great punk band that at times bordered on goth/art rock leaning to early hardcore. Hardcore is awful, imo and it's a shame that was where a lot of the punk influence led. I like it a bit better then American Psycho, though that album had a few killer tunes.

Famous Monsters had a couple great tracks. I love Saturday Night, as much as it's extremely derivative. Witch Hunt, and Helena are also favorites. I've always loved Doyle's playing. On my split coil P when aiming for a classic punk bass tone I use only the Dean Markley Bass Skullbusters. My current band is heading in a harder direction now and I'll be returning to this set up.

All in all it was a good album. I don't really consider early Misfits and the modern incarnations the same band. I like them both, and find that's easier when I don't try to make them compete in my mind.

As far as Doyle's playing. I consider him, Johnny Ramone, and Steve Jones to be the big three in punk guitar. I've never heard him play something I didn't like.

I hear ya. I found it very "meh". I didn't hate it, but I remember when it came out it was made a big deal out of and it left me a little let down. I think Famous Monsters was, as a whole, a much better album. However, there were also a couple songs on American Psycho that were much more traditional Misfits. In my opinion, anyhow and I've been listening to them for over 30 years. The Haunting and Don't Open Til Doomsday always stood out as solid punk works. Easily standing with the band's earlier works and easily on part with the best from Famous Monsters to me. I try not to judge post-Danzig Misfits too harshly. There's nothing wrong with what they are doing musically. It's good stuff, but most of it lacks that hunger that they had from the early days. I'll always be a fiend, though. I love the band.

I'll always love em. They put on a good show, even now. (though, Jerry Only is a terrible singer.)

They should get Graves and Marky back.

I've never been the biggest fan of Graves' voice, but he seemed to have a lot of love for the band. That's something you can't easily replace and I think they've suffered a lot since he left. The reality is that they are never going to really ever replace Glenn. Graves managed to not try, but actually bring his own thing to the band which I respected. I really dug Marky being in the line up, and while I love Dez's playing there's no replacing Doyle. I'd have to agree. To me the ideal modern line up would probably be Graves, Only, Doyle, and Marky. That's a pretty tough line up to beat.

or if Danzig would agree...

Danzig/Only/Dez/Marky

I pick Dez, simply because he's a genuinely nice person. He really acknowledged my existence the last time I saw them. (October 20th)

Danzig returning would be cool, but I'm not sure it'd be viable long term, or even make an entire tour of it. I just think there's a lot of rough water under that bridge. It sucks, but I'm not sure that'd be the best thing. While it'd be awesome if you got to see the show. I think that would be the end of the band when it finally ended.

I don't think they'll ever end, tbh. They'll probably be around for ages, like the Stones.

But Danzig is very... uptight, I guess. He seems like he'd take the fun out of the concerts that Jerry and Dez always bring. Jerry had little kids get on stage and do duets.
