Actually, that's true. I am. 8)

Seriously though, if it turned out Fender didn't mind us using their Forum logo there's no reason we couldn't do some version of this thing ourselves. The pickguard, or a guitar body sticker - or a whole custom finished body, for that matter. I can see achievable ways to make that happen, at a range of price points.

After the Forum T-shirt frustrations I completely get why Brad is unlikely to want to put time in on a thing like this himself. Now, whether they'd let us use the Forum logo I don't know - but replicating that would be a whole different thing to duplicating headstock logos; it's not like we'd be forging instruments or anything. And obviously, whatever was done would need to be run by them first.

So who knows? Maybe they'd be up for it on the basis that we do the work, they get final approval.

Possibilities...

Cheers - C

Well if the pickguard idea is a go ahead, I'll put my name down and order one.

Maybe to eliminate the 'forum t shirt' type of scenario happening again, perhaps a window of time to ensure everybody can purchase & get their order in..

Assuming if it gets past an approval of course

I would also be able to drop money on a pickguard more easily than a whole guitar.

If people are still interested the guitar idea might I suggest the following options:

Fender Stratocaster Standard (MIM)
Roller string tree instead of the older version
6 point tremolo with 5 springs included (so those of us can remove the ones we do not use)
A solid color, this is negotiable. I like Metallic Jade
Fender Forum pickguard
A high mass block.

A quick Google finds numerous pickguard makers on both sides of the Atlantic who will do custom designs. Just for shucks, these folks say they add $15 for doing custom artwork, which ain't exactly over the top. I haven't talked to them but I presume that if we did a joint order for lots of pickguards all the same we could cut a nice deal:

Just as an aside, while looking around I came across these people my side of the pond:

http://www.auroraproject.co.uk/scratchplate.htm

Click "other" on that page for their custom service. But more interestingly, have you seen their patent-applied-for GlowGuard system?

Oh, brothel chic! How sick is that? I want one! :D

Anyhow... If SuperKid wants to get Photoshopping and design us a Fender Forum Pickguard we could then talk to some people and get some prices. Whadayathink?

Haha - well again, I wouldn't want to be mistaken for a "key member". But Doc says he'll have a word with Brad; so if SK or some other budding Photoshopper wants to come up with a design or two we can all talk over; then I'm happy to chat to some makers and see if pricing works out how we all like it.

Then those as want to can sign up and we'll place an order. Howzat?

BTW: hey Yodacaster! This all doin' anything for you?

Cheers - C

With the interest of some of us who play bass, the pickguard might be a way to go. The question is the use of the copyrighted art.

Providing it was in the MIM price range, I would try to save up for one but as things are now, I took a $210 a week cut in pay due to the economy. I would say to simplify things we stick to some fairly standard spec's and instead maybe try to pick a re-issue color and maybe a custom medallion or logo for the headstock that signifies it as a FSR Fender Lounge addition?

A bump to note the guitar builder Strat on Texas build thread. I remembered that I liked that one too, :D

Found myself thinking about this today, 1. perhaps it should be a Telecaster to represet the first model Leo and George started with. 2. original features are important but it should be different sort of to reflect Forum diversity a mixture of old and new to make it unique to us ( unless someoe went to the custom shop, lol)
tried to pick a model (3 actually) were price looks workable. I thought to represent the original base finish should be "ash body with a Natural finish and a maple neck" all other features open to discuss Image
chose this Tele because those filtertron pickups, volume knob and toggle combo, string-thru body fixed bridge and smaller pickguard make this one unique Telecaster :D

ps: ash body with a Natural finish and a maple neck, or, one piece maple neck 8)
