as for the style, i'll take either a strat, a jazzmaster or a 72 tele deluxe... i'm into flashy finishes so i'd like something original like gun metal gray with a black pearl pickguard, or amber with a black or tortoise shell pickguard, surf green with black pickguard etc. MAKE IT LOOK DIFERENT in terms of colour schemes. and i know i've been off the forum for a while but are block inlays still loved by all???

p.s. how about making it a mustang?? a student model for big time fender fans...

God no. It should be something special made in the USA. If it was a Squier model I highly doubt it would sell. I kind of like the idea of the Forum Lounge Logo guitar.

i agree with the forum logo but still you gotta remember not everyone in this forum could afford an american made instrument. and i believe there are members of this forum who would like to show their love for this forum but don't have the extra buck... plus like i said not everyone is gonna get their input in making the guitar so what's in it for them if it's not affordable?... i know i won't be as intressted in this project if the guitar comes out looking like a typical strat there's gotta be something special about it i like em flashy... that's what turns me on about fender... they always manage to put some style in their stuff while making them sound as good as always.

plus i dunno what's the hate on it being a squier (or an asian made fender with the right logo or a special forum logo) it's not that less of a guitar if you plug it in... plus i dunno if fender is willing to spend all that cash on american made instruments if some members aren't...

    Hi nikininja. I don't think you're being a "killjoy". I think you're being realistic.

In all our discussions spanning six months and upwards of fifty pages we've been going back and forth on what we'd like to have, what we'd like to see, and what we'd like to pay. That's all fine n' dandy and certainly the purpose of this thread but what we haven't really discussed is what's in this for Fender and why would/should the company go forward with the project?

Making a profit is the obvious choice but I don't think the company's bottom-line hinges on revenue from sales of a Forum Guitar. Another reason could be advertising and maintaining good customer relations. ... ?

Anyhow, maybe if we can see things from their point of view we could understand or explain why it seems we're getting the silent treatment.

    Cheers!
    BM

I think they just want customers. They aren't going to release a limited run of production line guitars for the good of mankind. I do think though that Fender take excessive steps towards looking after their fanbase. Particularly those parts of it that frequent this board.

What we really need on this thread is for someone to design the guitar. Then sell it. As I've always said, I'm not interested. But I'd be a lot more interested in buying a guitar I could at least see, instead of buying the idea of a guitar about to become a reality.
I think you'd drum up a lot more custom that way.
Instead of having a free for all on design, cos enough ideas have been offered already. Elect someone as designer who can be trusted to go through this thread. Sift through all the suggestions. Knows a bit about what works and can knock up a few designs.

As for Brad being a little quiet, he's a busy guy. You can bet next months pay packet though that Fender monitor these boards to see exactly what their customer base are saying and will have seen this thread.

Oh and as for my offer of a design. I say look no further than Martians Strat. It's a guitar that came together from contributions by various forum members to Martians requirements.
It looks lovely, is born from the generous good natured spirit that has been part of these forums since day dot. And has been spec'd by someone who I suspect not only knows his onions but absolutely knows every onion there ever was, personally, by first name.

The majority of those interested are willing to spend 1500 bucks. A American Special Strat retails for 899.99 up here in Canada. A American Standard is 1199.99. Both well within the upper price range of the MAJORITY of those interested. How much do you think it would cost Fender to mix up some Yellowish paint and add a Fender Lounge Logo on the pick guard or where ever. If they do decide to follow through with this we all will never agree on the specs so they should keep it simple, use what comes with the Standard or the Special and call it done just to keep the price down.

I have no hate for Squiers, I actually own one. It was my first guitar. The reason why it should not be a Squier is because they are the lower end of the Fender line. Your right, not everyone can afford a American made but so what. If the guitar is a Limited Edition, Special Run or what ever you want to call it then it should be a good quality American made one.

I honestly doubt this will even happen. Fender obviously watches this Forum and haven't added any comments and by the looks of the list the demand for one isn't there. To make it at least profitable I would guess they would need at least two or three hundred orders.

Ok. Still kicking ideas here. What about a MIA Squier? It would have the MIA craftmanship with an affordable starting point.

Again, I would be fine with just a special made neck plate or pick guard. I am still willing to go for 0 to $1200 and possible $1500 if the specs were just that good. However for $1500 dollars, I can get a MIA Deluxe. Just how special would the Forum-caster be from a Deluxe?

We kicked that idea around quite extensively and I think it may still be simmering on the back burner although with the recent retirement of Abigail Yberra the pup choice will need to be revisited on that one.

We've been stumbling here for a long time and I think we need to hear from Fender on this.

The one directive we got from Brad (several times) was to come up with a price range first, which I think for the most part we've done. Now we need to know how many commitments would be required to make this project happen but Fender has yet to weigh in on that point. Personally, I see no point in making an effort to come up with a design until we at least know that much. I mean if it's not going to happen because there aren't enough people then designing it is a waste of time and effort and we should just let it die.

Actually a MIA Esquier would run more than the $1500 price, unless Fender was going to be doing us a very special deal.

No, I meant a MIA Squier guitar, a Tele, Esquier, Stratocaster, Mustang...something. A Squier guitar for starters would be a nice starting point for most average forumites. Being made in America will give it a bit more desire than say Made in Indonesia or Crafted in China Squier. If we need mass participation to get the Fender team on board, then why not a more affordable guitar that most other forum members can be a part of?

I always understood Squiers were made in USA for 2 years only. I think it might have been 1989 and 1990. Something about rebuilding the factory.

Time frame might be the obvious "gonna be" (from the all inclusive many faceted question "what's it gonna be"). What I mean by that is Brad and Fender know that many of us will purchase an exclusive Forum special run guitar for members only, so, with the knowledge that Brad is filling in for a key member that has moved on as well as shouldering his lions share of responsibility for his department and we all know that from planning to manufacturing a model in real Fender time is years not months, we are going to get a Forum guitar "for us" by Fender, we should revisit our thread here to keep it in our minds because Fender has noted and is considering our desires about the guitar, patience is a virtue. When time is available to talk with us Fender will do just that. If you haven't started already, start saving for this guitar, lol. I think in a year maybe a little more, from now, we will all be playing our newest addition to the Fender family of electric guitars. For members only of course. :D

Oh no, we have been spammed. I hate spammers. I agree we need to see what the Fender team needs to have some time to discuss ideas on the Forum guitar.
