3 different price points for a run of 9 guitars???

He is always well intentioned.....but it's very cold where he lives.
9 guitars, I thought at least 50 names would be on "the list" after one page. I'm still getting a Telecaster (the one I picked). It was fun yoda.
cheers

There's been much discussion and many great ideas. The original poll speaks to the fence sitting and waiting on the company. You have 103 who voted, 28% with a firm yes and 49% of whom are in the price dependent category. 9 committed to a price range. Certainly enough potential buyers if the price is right. I strongly feel that FMIC need to make a move.

"Sosa....Make a move!"

Doc, some one said earlier "100 guitars for this to happen". That's 9 guitars for each of us, my accountant will fire me. I would need a suggestion, Doc. :)

I was so relieved to see someone say they wouldn't be looking for a $200 guitar. That is a nonsense, this is going to be a one off instrument, a never repeated opportunity. So let's do it on the cheap??? :? Don't make sense to me. If I were up for it, I'd be spec'ing the hell out of it and harvesting kidneys to sell on the black market to raise funds.
Ain't like you're going to get another chance.
....

This pretty much reflects my feelings on the matter.

I'm not sure how this following suggestion will go over with the group but I would be willing to volunteer to kick in a little extra to help the young lad up his ante to about double where it's at or maybe more to help get our actual number of commitments up and our price point in a more reasonable range to get something nice rather than waste the opportunity on something cheap. I don't see his price range as being a serious contender for an actual commitment and he has expressed acknowlegment he may very well be out of the running. That would reduce our number of commitments which at this point I don't think we can afford. To be perfectly candid, I will bow out altogether if it isn't something special. I suspect others may do the same as well and that would leave the project in no-man's-land. I'm just not interested in a $200 guitar. I'm not even interested in a $500 guitar. I don't need top shelf but I do need special. I'm not sure I'd want to foot the bill entirely by myself to help out but there may be others with a slightly philanthropic heart who might be willing to throw in an extra C-Note.

Suggestion: If you're that concerned about your accountant, and you're still single, remain that way. If you are married, lose your concerns about your accountant. You have bigger worries.

The altruism amongst some of us here never ceases to impress me. I'm at the point where I'm seeing us coming full circle and maybe a custom neck plate we can afix to our favorite axe will be the ultimate deal maker. Can't imagine it costing much and not getting 100 takers.
Were approaching fifty pages, over 6 months of discussion and we're still waiting on the company. I'd leave it to Fender to design it and just run with it, what ever the hell it looks like.

Why not let everyone that wants to do this pick a production model of their choice, strat or tele and see if FMIC will do a custom one off paint job on them. Then do a decal on the head stock and custom neck plate. Just my nickel's worth.

Excellent idea. I think it's the only way this will work. No body wants anything too outlandish yet no one can agree on a set of specs.

Highly individual instruments guitars

I happened to see this in their latest catalog :

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/guitars/ ... ric-guitar

Pine dings easily and you have to be careful not to over-torque fasteners, but other than that it's an excellent body wood. Leo's very first Tele prototypes were pine.

With 22 jumbo frets and vintage tuners, I could easily live with a pine body. That Honeyburst option looks good too, IMO.

I have not added my name to the list for a few reasons. 1. I have no interest in a group hug (cheap) guitar if it a fender special run for the site I should be a quality guitar and 2. I have no interest in a tele of any design. So I'll be waiting to see what come out in the end and then I'll decide.

I'll admit I haven't read up on this thread since my last post, but did someone just say Pine body and 22 jumbo frets?! Esquire, Tele or anything, I'd totally be down for that! :D

I have one of these in honeyburst. Awesome guitar, sounds great. I do not know if I need 2. Great for anyone else who is looking for a well made guitar on a budget. So impressed I am thinking of a Modern Player Strat.

Hi tbazzone. The "Group Hug" price is not an indicator of quality. It indicates how much the member is willing to spend for this guitar without being too "picky" on the specs. For example, I'm one of those who has never bonded with a Tele so this would not be my choice. However if a Tele is chosen as the Forum Guitar and it comes in at my "Group Hug" price, I will probably place an order. To put it another way, at my "Group Hug" price the uniqueness of the guitar takes precedence over my preferred specs. Of course everyone has different views on this and for some people any given spec could be a deal breaker regardless of price.

As far as quality is concerned, I have always assumed that it would be nothing less than MIM standards.

Meanwhile back in Scottsdale, what do you think is happening around the water cooler? Brad has confirmed that "... this is under active discussion on this end. We've covered it a few times in recent meetings and it's on the radar."

    Cheers!
    BM

On the radar and on the drawing board are two different things. On the radar means they've seen us and they are monitoring our actions. It means they are waiting for us to get closer before they will intercept. They will have a certain range within which they will interact with us and outside of which they will not. It means we will have to approach them before they make a move in our direction. I have seen no evidence to date indicating FMIC intends to take a proactive approach. Waiting for them to come to us with ideas for us to accept or reject is not one of our options. We will have to come up with the ideas and they will do the accepting and rejecting.

I agree.
I don't know what page the list is on but if some one wants to add me to it I'm in @ the $500 - $1500 range.
