So you've added a Bigsby and a flame top to an $899 guitar and are willing to pay $200-500.

Be nice, Mark.

You bring up a good point though. If we are going to use a purely democratic process with regard to the price range, some folks may find themselves out of the running. No offense to our young prodigy but I'm not interested in a $200 guitar.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

No worries SK. I was a big fan of your budget model with Bigsby.
Unfortunately Fender are not a registered charity for guitarists with GAS.
Goodonya ...Mark.

Suppose we make believe that Mark doesn't know that, for talking point, 'street' might be 25% off list, and dealers cost 50%. [Look at the numbers which the company allowed their dealers during their Spring Break a thon. ] We could be looking at a range between $450-$675 depending on the deal they're willing to cut us.

Pretty that Fender will produce to cater for the most profit.

Better get saving.

And no, Boxbang, sorry mate. I won't be adding myself to the list. I've given three strats and two amps away since I last visited this site and am still sick of tripping over the rest.

Me too.

Actually, me not.

For a price in the hundreds I'm happy to go with the crowd for the simple group hug fun of the thing.

Actually my "me too" comment was about the bass comment and not the price. I simply wanted to imply I'd like to get the ball rolling even if it meant a bass. I guess I should have edited the quote to reflect as much. Like I did here.

I'm with most people on the price point as it pertains to an Esquire.
I can certainly justify $1,500 for a guitar that I would have chosen for myself but it seems a bit steep to me for a guitar that I would buy soley for a conversation piece.

BMW: you express my feelings exactly.

BTW, far as basses are concerned, I'm not at all against the idea. In some ways I could justify a new bass better than a guitar. I'm guessing that ain't the way this project will end up, but if bass players want to weigh in they'll get no opposition from me. I bet there's some interesting things we could do with four strings. (Not five: I mean, c'mon...)

So.

Hi Ceri. In terms of group-hug-price and needs-to-press-my-buttons price, would be $500-$1500 USD be an accurate translation?

    Cheers!

Hi BM. :)

I guess we could kinda visualise it as a slider on a mixing console, with $500/group-hug-vibe at one end and $1500+/perfectly-tailored-spec-sheet at the other. At the bottom price I'm happy to go with whatever weird and wonderful guitar SuperKid comes up with. The further that slider moves up the price range the lower my tolerance gets for strange pickguard shapes and garish finishes.

On the other hand, I like democracy and it's possible the voting process Brad suggested will turn up an unusual but gob-smackingly gorgeous guitar that I just HAVE to possess. We don't know till we get there.

So the serious difficulty is that I, and probably many others, don't want to rule ourselves out of the higher priced option, but we can't commit to it either. And commitment is what Brad needs.

I'm not sure how that circle is squared...?

Cheers - C

Thanks for clearing that up, Ceri. It makes perfect sense! It also adds another cool variable to the equation.

We have the Group Hug price on the on low end of the slider, the Must Press My Buttons price on top, and now we can add the Dependent upon Irresistible Specs reserve price in case of the Dream Guitar scenario.

    Cheers!

Hee-hee - I could make it much more complicated if you like? :D

Thing is, if it's going to turn out as some kind of bizarre Tele-Strat thing with a wacky pickguard I doubt I want it for more than about $200. But I'd hate to rule myself out - and then find the Forum FSR ends up being an Eric Johnson maple neck Strat in a limited edition Aqua Flake finish (number 13 on the chart). I'd damn near bite your arm off to get my hands on a guitar like that, especially at $1500! Hell, YES!

In other words, it's kinda hard to commit to a price point when we don't know what we're getting for it.

Cheers - C

What I like about the price range model - especially your descriptive monikers - is that it doesn't commit us to any one price point but does provide FMIC with a fairly accurate representation of our intention.

Dreaming in technicolor and just for grins and giggles let's assume that the FSR Forum Guitar turns out to be a very close cousin of the CS 1965 Strat I've been drooling over for a while now. I assure you that the $1500 Must Press My Buttons price will be taking a big jump upwards.

    Cheers!

$1500 for that? I'll take three! :D

Hey, seriously though, as a way forward howsabout thinking in terms of an existing model but with a non-standard finish? A factory line Clapton Strat in Fiesta Red, say? Or at a more affordable price point, a Jimmie Vaughan Strat in Silver Sparkle? Or Midnight Blue? Or...

Pick a guitar: choose a finish. Slap a Forum logo on the back of the headstock and trick it out with a Forum COA signed by Brad - and away we go.

That way the price is done and dusted without a hundred more pages of negotiation.

(Odd how I keep picking maple neck models...)

Cheers - C
