Maybe we need a new list. Those who agree in principle to $1.5K for a Tele shaped object.

I remain satisfied with the proposed Esquire design for all the reasons cited previously. For a great historical perspective, and some interesting discussions and mods,[including an entire article on the Eldred wiring] see the archives of Premier Guitar magazine for the series of articles exploring the Esquire written by Dirk Wacker in his monthly column Mod Garage. This month's issue begins his in depth review of the Telecaster [originally known as The Broadcaster]which evolved out of the twin pickup Esquire in early 1951.

That would be one heck of an Esquire.
Still my pick.

Agreed. At the same time I am also open to other suggestions and proposals. Among them is the Strat-Tele Hybrid which I think wins hands down on the uniqueness meter but admittedly could be considered by some to be a monstrosity or abomination.

What we all agree on is that the Lounge Guitar needs to be something special and have characteristics which set it apart from other FSR or Limited Edition models. This in turn brings us to the on-going issue of price point. My impression is that we need to settle on this before we can go any further.

    Cheers!

FMIC needs to come in here and say: [Design notwithstanding]"We can't go forward with this for anything less than x$'s to the buyer and a run of y#'s.. Based on that, we get an idea of how many could move forward. If we can't meet their threshold numbers, we can dispose of the idea of a guitar, and move to something else, like a neck plate or logo decal or both. I'm in complete agreement with you on this and definitely at the point where it's their move.

Other than the Custom Shop's '59 Esquire Relic, is there any other Esquire in the lines which has the Eldred Circuit and/or an Abby wound 'Twisted Tele' pickup? Some Teles do have six individual adjustable saddles. If we're concerned with cost, there's just sooo much uniqueness that one can wring out of this wet rag.[ We're definitedly NOT going to ask them to paint it EPC Red. ]

If it comes down to a neck plate/logo decal, and nothing more, I've already a design of my own which has been on a back burner for quite some time now. I'll go forward with that and will put the neck plate on it.

Precisely.
That's what has to happen before we can procede, IMO.

Now getting back to the drawing board in the design lab ....
The more I think about the hidden neck pup idea the more I like it.
I kinda dig the notion I could be on stage and guitar wannabes could be out there watching and wondering how I'm getting those neck pup tones with an Esquire.

Do not lose sight of the fact that every design modification requiring 'work' on the raw material carries a cost factor with it. Something we are trying to keep to a bare minimum.

I think the price is at $1500. A bit steeper than I would have liked, but I'll find a way. I still like the voting process. At this point a Telecaster, Stratocaster, or Esquire...hell, at this point I would even entertain a bass if it meant getting moving along.

Yah.
Me too.

Actually, me not.

For a price in the hundreds I'm happy to go with the crowd for the simple group hug fun of the thing.

As the cost goes up, so does my fussiness. $1500+ is getting into grown-up territory for electric guitars and for that price I have to get an instrument that genuinely presses my buttons, spec-wise. Esprit de corps is all very well, but there's limits.

The design process seems to be starting over, so I'm going to bide my time and see what folks come up with. If I love it I'll go for it. If not...

Cheers - C

I put it in terms of a "price range" but I really like your "group hug" imagery and "button-pressing" analogy. I think it may better illustrate the relationship between a price point and its significance with regard to the number of potential buyers.

As for the design process "starting over", I understand what you mean but I never considered it a design process per se. More akin to people throwing ideas back and forth which of course is part of the fun. The real design process can only begin when FMIC says so and this brings us back to what ZZDoc said earlier about FMIC needing to step in and establish the minimum cost for going forward and the minimum sales required.

    Cheers!

Actually my "me too" comment was about the bass comment and not the price. I simply wanted to imply I'd like to get the ball rolling even if it meant a bass. I guess I should have edited the quote to reflect as much. Like I did here.

I'm with most people on the price point as it pertains to an Esquire.
I can certainly justify $1,500 for a guitar that I would have chosen for myself but it seems a bit steep to me for a guitar that I would buy soley for a conversation piece. I would prolly still buy it but I would feel it was an extravagance. That's why I like the idea of a hidden neck pup. It puts a more useful spin on the project.
