Price point being a consideration, the question of MSRP vs 'street' needs yet to be addressed. It may change the number of current committments.

I have no issues with people lobbying for a favorite design. However, I'm of the opinion that, for all the reasons previously discussed, and based upon those who have committed, we should be moving forward with an Esquire with the Eldred circuit, and an Abby wound twisted Tele pickup in a classic finish. We can certainly dismiss the Bigsby. It can be an add-on for some aftermarket, The final decision yet to be, how we personalize it as a Forum Lounge guitar and what it will cost.

Getting into the issue of new designs takes us back some 30 pages and months of work. If that's what the majority care to do, I'm not going to quibble, but it seems to me to be unconstructive at this point in time.

I am not flip-flopping. I too have already decided an Esquire would be a good design. The 1.5 K is stretching my budget. Hopefully Fender can produce an Esquire with the Eldridge circuit and Abby wound pickups for around that price. I am on the fence about the Bigsby, I will go with whichever camp has the most supporters. I agree that it is something that. Oils be left off to keep the price down a bit.

I can work around a $1500 budget however for an esquire I'm not sure.. 1500 not far off an American std. this option however seems more feasible for a tele but hey, keen to see what options there are :)

If its kept too classic looking or what have you, we may as well drop our coin on a MIM esquire. For a forum guitar I'd like to see something unusual- especially in the finish colour :)

I've been operating on the assumption that the $1,500 number floating about was not written in stone and that we were talking about something in a lower price range. I was also under the impression it was suggested list price and that the actual price would be around $1,200.

If this is not the case then I think we should know that up front and right pronto as that will increase the required financial comittment and may weed out buyers; particularly on the Esquire model.

I also think that we should decide if we are going to go forward with the Esquire or go back to square one. There have been a number of comments about different guitars. I don't know about the rest of you but these comments give me the feeling we could be inches away from going back to square one. I am open to a number of ideas as long as it is something special. In either case I think we need to get this train moving.

If we procede with the Esquire then I think one way we could make this project more appealing to the masses is if we toss the special Mike Eldred curcuit. Nothing personal against Mike himself here. It's just that we've seen a number of comments about a preference of a Tele over an Esquire particularly at the price point. A hidden neck pup under the scratch plate as someone mentioned a number of pages ago, maybe even something a little out of the ordinary like a P90 might help to bring some of these people in while retaining those who like the Esquire idea since it would still look like an Esquire and with an Esquire logo.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I just shelled out $1500 to replace a toilet along with cutting out of the concrete floor and replacing the mounting flange. I won't be buying any new guitar for quite some time.

Did it come with the Bigsby or is that going to be an add-on?  (Sorry, Bill. Couldn't resist).

Meanwhile back at ranch, it's looking more and more that we need to come up with a price point before anything can go forward. Hopefully Brad will check in soon and clear things up with regard to MSRP vs. Sticker Price.

    Cheers!

IMHO, a Bigsby feels like a bog handle...

That would have been an extra $500.

My most expensive guitar (last gen AVRI 52 Tele) was only about $1400. 8)

Bit sad about this price point issue.

- Surely we should keep the young folks and people like me who don't have all that much cash flying around at the moment involved by offering something of the MIM-pricing?

- If this is a direct deal with Fender, we cut out the retailer & distributer, which in my view should hint at a good price for end buyers?

- If this should be a test-run for a more commercial option down the line - why not make it MIM for starters and take the insights from there?

- A low price point doesn't mean a democratic process is ruled out. It also doesn't mean that 99 vote over the 1 regarding specs. Opening it up to the public holds the necessity of a relatively low price, in fact, as BMW points out.

- For inspiration on democratic gear spec'ing: Do a web search for chapman guitars, who basically created two models by forum voting as one-off runs, and now have a proper enterprise going with standard models. The retail under 400 pounds sterling if I remember correctly. I only heard about this process recently but am happily surprised that Brad and his team have their ear to the ground and are thinking about something like this as well - once again it shows that Fender are a creative and forward-thinking organisation! Kudos.

- As for the cost of routing or chambering: Surely there are a number of bodies already routed, ready to become thinlines? ;) I know this is not a great calculationby yours truly, because cost is cost, however much you spread it, but it's not like Fender still need to invent the tooling ;)

I can't spend a grand (pounds that is) on a guitar right now. Sorry chaps! It should be at least partly commemorative (at least for this occasion) and thus I have to treat it more like a luxury item for myself.

Why not have the same guitar run in two different models? MIM and MIA? This way the guys with the necessary currency could get something a little bit extra special (abby pickups, American made etc.), while the others would still get a decent but special guitar. Same specs (perhaps different electronics), same voting process, better commitment, further reach.

Just throwing it out there. And yes, some sort of thinline would be my favoured option, could even be a thinline strat. Haha! *puts madcap on*

Thanks for listening to my awful rambling. If I got t wrong, it's due to my man flu. See ya!

What about something like a Pawn Shop Esquire? Something really cool, unique, and in that $500-$700 price range? Just a thought...

By saying someone you mean Brad from fender. Not everyone agreed with you idea I'm sure there are several thousand of members on this site so the maybe 10 people on your list is far from everyone. I think fender will have to decide on what the guitar will be and go from there.

Relax, SK, time is what this sort of stuff takes plenty of. I really like your input on this, and don't think that all your hard work photoshopping went unnoticed. kudos mate!

If you're impatient, what should old guys like me say?? After all, statistically we are closer towards dying than you... ;-)

Cheers

I hear ya. I know. It feels like we're going in circles. Try not to get too discouraged. We'll get it all sussed out one way or the other.

Well like I said I'm keen to hear our options. But anyway, the big question is would anyone pay $1500 for an esquire? However That is the proverbial spanner that has been thrown into the works...to put it in perspective. Me- possibly. it depends on specs. I'm not expecting anything significant tho, but still interested in the possibilities all the same.

Maybe we need a new list. Those who agree in principle to $1.5K for a Tele shaped object.

It could be an awesome guitar. Brad has suggested that this price range is where the serious fun starts.
The Esquire could have a hidden pickup or maybe some binding or special wood. We could go with a Thinline body. Maybe we could refine a solid body Tele with contours.
Please, may it not be one of those butt-ugly hybrid Strateles or Telestrats.

Fender is obviously looking for commitment and this could be a great opportunity to interact at a high level,
I remain Fair Dinkum.
