I also have no interest in a tele or anything with a bigsby. I would never buy a guitar that I wouldn't play and that would be a tele. We just don't get along but there is more than me so I hope that the guitar ends up a strat with a tele neck. I would be in for that. Well that's my 2 cents.

I'm good with Shell Pink, Surf Green, Butterscotch or bright orange for that matter.

I'm also good with a solid, thinline or chambered body. I think a thinline would be especially cool (plus I don't have one).

As far as the Bigsby goes, I'd go along if everyone really was dying for one but IMO it's a lot easier to add a Bigsby after you get the guitar than it is for someone who doesn't want it to take it off. Because honestly, I'd probably replace it with a regular Tele style bridge if it came with a Bigsby.

I will definitely be buying one or perhaps even two FSR Fender Lounge guitars if they're produced, yes ... I'll be buying one of these regardless of what final spec is decided upon. (I'd honestly prefer it not be an Esquire personally as I'd never play out with one of those, and would probably buy only one in that case as an office display item only but ... it's really whatever you guys come up with.)

We do seem to have gotten away a bit from the question I posed above regarding price, which is pretty pivotal. Just to spell it out perhaps a bit more clearly than I did before ... the list of options we can do in the $1500 and above territory -- taking an American Standard Tele or Strat as the base platform and going from there -- becomes a LOT more feasible than what we can do at the lower price points. That price range opens up the possibility for me to really engage with you more directly on it and create a more organized, multi-phase discussion and voting process that would lead to an actual, unique American-made instrument based around same ... including a more organized voting process centered around all realistic component choices. (In fact, I may have a matrix of options in front of me that could drive the effort as I type this. :-) ) We'd probably set up a separate area of the forums to design the thing at a component-by-component level and then right at the end we'd worry about how to make it truly unique (be it a unique finish, be it special application of the Lounge logo, etc.) Again, the base platforms here would be an American Standard Strat or Tele, and I'd roll out the listing week by week of realistic options that we could equip the thing with. This approach has the hidden advantage of being somewhat of a pilot test run for a concept we are tinkering with internally - you guys would be the first to give it a shot!

It's either that, or we can continue with this more informal approach and I can take whatever design seems to be gathering the most steam here and walk it in to evaluate what would be required to get it done and/or whether it's realistic at the price point being suggested.

And again, a third option here is for Fender ourselves to simply offer a few designs based on our own internal discussion of what's possible based on target price point.

Guide me, won't you? :D

Hmm, I probably wouldn't want to drop $1500 on an Esquire, but an American made custom Tele might be another story...

Hi Brad, an American Standard platform (Telecaster is what I was thinking) would have to start at $1500.00. The base model would be all the higher that I could go.

Not quite sure I followed you there. You're saying you could do 1.5K but not any higher?

Brad, can I ask how one would order from another country- via a retailer or direct from Fender? Thanks :)

Brad, when you say $1,500 are you referring to MSRP or what we as individuals would pay to purchase the guitar?

To help zero in on a price point, may I suggest we consider a price range for the Lounge Guitar. At price "A", on the lower end of the range, the guitar is purchased with little to no consideration for the specs because the unique nature of the instrument is sufficient to justify the purchase. At price "B", on the other end of the price range, the specs are weighed very heavily and the buyer is unwilling to compromise on most features.

With this model in mind, I would say that my price "A" is $400 and price "B" is around $1,700. This is where people's mileage will vary but I'm thinking that having a price range as opposed to a figure based on asking "how much are you willing to spend" may help toward establishing a meaningful price point.

I'm favoring the first option, although the third could lead this project to market much sooner.

    Cheers!

There is an inherent problem with using a voting process to design a guitar like this.

That problem is ... who gets to vote?
That's a really big question.

How many thousands of members do we have? And how many guitars are we actually going to be building? And the people who are truly serious about buying one ... should we expect them to buy something designed by a committee made up of 99% people who have no real stake in the matter?

The way I see it there really are very few viable options for using a voting process and still being fair to the end buyers. The majority who voted in the original poll cast their vote on "depends on price". That means that we need to set the price range first to find out who is potentially serious about it and who is not. Only those who are potentially serious should be allowed to vote on the next step which would likely be body shape. That will weed out more voters so we can go on to the next biggest item, slowly working our way down to the smaller details. As the voter pool shrinks the level of committment would have to increase in order to keep the process focused on a path forward. Else we could become bogged down for months or even years arguing details and going backward to rehash stuff already dealt with. I believe we need to use the process of elimination.

Direct ... we'll cross that bridge when we get to it but I would naturally make every effort to ensure that folks outside the US are able to participate.

Typed all of this out once and lost it hope its not a double post.
While I haven't committed to this yet 1.5k would be the max for me as well. I picked up a 52 tele hot rod for Christmas and a strat last month during the big sale. I was thinking my next guitar purchase would probably be a cabronita. This thread has drawn my interest again now. As someone one stated on a previous page why not offer both Strat and Tele, let the buyer decide what's right for them. I'm thinking at 1500.00 though some people wont be able to participate.
Either way, no bigsby for me.

I mentioned something to this effect a few pages back. I think the price is at $1500. A bit steeper than I would have liked, but I'll find a way. I still like the voting process. At this point a Telecaster, Stratocaster, or Esquire...hell, at this point I would even entertain a bass if it meant getting moving along.
