Wa-a-ay back on the thread ZZDoc suggested it should be in the MIM price range, and I can't beat the logic of that, from the point of view of making it available to the maximum number of Forum users. We have school kids here, and people having a tough time with the economy, and so forth. We can't come up with something that pleases everyone, but in the spirit of the Forum we should keep it as democratic as possible.

Fender do plenty of MIM FSRs, and that's the ballpark our minds should be working in - no?

With or without the Bigsby I think the Esquire platform has something definitively Fender about it, and slightly off the usual FSR beaten path. Add something or other that makes it clearly the Forum guitar and it's a goer.

I'm wide open to other suggestions - but so far there haven't been any that have gathered more than one or two supporters.

It does kinda feel this thread has been going round in circles for a lo-o-ong time now...

Cheers - C

Thanks to Brad for the post 8)

As far as price range goes, MIM would be the most viable for most forum members and I'd be happy with that.
If the guitar was MIA ,based on the one posted by SBLS, well, I could be easily swayed. If it contained the pickup/circuitry mentioned by zzdoc, then yeah, I'm in.
For now, put me in the $0-1000 range.

Brad Traweek - Fender wrote:
Or, as a third alternative - Fender simply taps into our own existing design resources and specs and designs the thing ourselves. Maybe we create 2 or 3 options and we vote on a winner. Folks simply either buy it, or don't. Not incredibly interactive, this approach, but would certainly help with speed to market if that's a primary motivating factor.

Assuming that one of these options was an Esquire, I think this approach sounds not too bad, especially if we are keeping it simple. Months of polls does not appeal to me.

I took the lead from the Custom Shop's '59 Relic Esquire which features a twisted Tele pickup and what they call the 'Eldred Esquire' wiring. Check that website if you'd like some insight into the guitar. There's also been a feature article on that circuit in Premier Guitar magazine in recent past. I'd like to see those specs in our FSR for all the reasons I stated before. ME uses such an instrument as his main stage axe when he tours and I believe some of the tracks on his CD's were done with it. He gets some really great blues tones out of there. Brad and Rob get the nod, of course, from the neck plate and, if desired, the logo on the pickguard. IMHO, we've covered all the bases here, with the 'deference due to men of pedigree' and sharing a common bond. [P.S. If ya don't know the source of the quote, don't ask me, ask Ceri. Because if I tell ya' well....'my object all sublime, I shall achieve in time'....and you know the rest   ]

Although my first choice for a Forum Guitar was a Strat, I must admit that ZZDoc makes a very convincing case for the Esquire. The Bigsby is still a deal breaker for me so hopefully it will be optional but the more I consider the Esquire - especially with the Eldred circuit and Abby pups - the more I like it and see myself playing it. :)

+1 I think this would be a good time to bring on t he "official" thread.

So. Let's try it this way. Takers for some version of the Esquire (I too like ZZDoc's idea of ME's electricals):

Bluer Monkey
ZZDoc
Ceri
Boxbang
Solid Body Love Songs

Who else? Blertles? Mike? Others...?

Hey SK, you're a big part of this thing - want to add your name to the list in my previous post?

I am in for an Esquire as well. I also like the idea of something that everyone could afford.

I can't make out what the model names are on those head stocks.

I would quite likely be in for the MIM Bigsby Tele or Esquire but I'd still like someone to address my previous question re: the selector switch on the Esquire. Is the switch not supposed to be there or is there a hidden neck pup under the scratch plate? I'm kinda diggin' the hidden pup idea.

I'd even go for the Strat/Tele thingamajig but I would prefer one of the two Tele/Esquires shown.

The normal Strat is just a bit too pedestrian for my tastes.

I'm inclined towards this. The logo gives it a certain panache. It's counterpart at the bottom looks a bit undressed without it. I'd like a neck plate on it, for sure. I prefer the individual saddles, the advantage of which Martian has spoken to. The Bigsby is an added touch. Pricing the thing out is an absolute must at this juncture.

Vote of confidence much appreciated there's really no need for a leader on the barricades. It appears that Brad and Rob are on this. What we need now is spec pricing to test the waters. In that the Tele I favored has all the bells and whistles, and they give us a price for this 'fully loaded' guitar, we can either go with it, or
pare it down to suit our needs.

You'll want to compare this to the Eldred wiring in both the references I cited. There are several articles on the Tele/Esquire circuitry in Premier Guitar for your interests.

Are stainless steel frets off the table?

Or perhaps a Firestorm paint job?!?

Jokes aside I would likely buy one of these. I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere here but the logo should be modified if it ends up on the pick guard. Having a Strat there seems funky and the Lounge logo would look great with Tele in it's place.

I believe Brad concurs. However, If creating new art for the pickguard proves to be a cost issue, I'd move to eliminate it.

The Fender Lounge logo is something which I feel should appear on the Fender Lounge Guitar but I don't see why there would be a need for any new artwork. The only modification to the existing logo would be the size, especially if it ends up on the pick guard. Perhaps I'm overlooking something?

As for logo placement, I like BoxBang's suggestion of having it on the back of the head stock. Another possibility could be the neck plate, or somewhere else on the back of the body.

I also like very much the simple, clean, uncluttered look we see here. (Note: no Bigsby ... just the ashtray  )
