You're not the first with this idea. We got bogged down in the matter of specs and design and Brad had misgivings due to the lack of popularity of the Forum shirts which led him to believe that a committment to a guitar would be less forthcoming. Even were it to be an MIM FSR you're still looking at at least $500-$1000 depending on final design.

Now, let me take it from another point of view. You can go to the Visitor's Center in Corona and build a guitar from scratch. So if they wanted to do something special for and with us, the one thing that would have to be standard would be what ever art would go on the guitar and, to make matters simple, the body would best be white or black, unless they give us the option to order from a palate of finishes available at the Visitors Center. From there, and working with an inventory of what's in the parts bin in Corona, you could order the guitar, pay for it, the builders would pick the parts and voila!!!

Agreed.

I like this, but with the logo smaller, maybe confined to 1/4 of the guitar body.

Looking forward to the revision. While we are waiting, any thoughts on my idea of posting of this on Eldred's website?

OK...

Not wanting to throw a stick in the spokes, let me play the Advocatus Diaboli for a moment...

We're are just two weeks away from Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season, not usually a time of Plenty for many as there are many more places crying for your money than normal...

Rushing a Proposal or Prototype now, and asking for committments could stall any momentum, possibly to the point of dooming it.

It might be better tabled until maybe 45-60 days after the Holidays when Holiday CC bills are paid and Tax Refunds are looming on the Horizon...

Just sayin'...

cheers!

I don't sense any urgency in this. It's about as exploratory as it has been in the past which didn't come to anything at all. Many issues have been raised and require answers. I don't see anything forthcoming as yet from Brad. Rob often jumps in early on matters such as these on the Custom Shop Forum. So we'll just kick the can around and see how things distill out.

Reverse headstock only looks cool if it's pointy. Do not like. :(

Cool idea, but I think it might be best to stick with a MIM or MIA Standard. Everyone has very specific, and very different ideas about their ideal specs (mine would be jumbo stainless steel frets, which I know not everyone is a fan of). With a Standard, you get a middle ground that just about everyone can agree on.

As far as the price goes, I'm thinking MIM would be a lot easier for someone like me to grasp. I love MIA Fenders, but I just don't have the budget for one.

That's why I'm interested in the Corona in absentia concept, but we need to be able to cost it out first.

In theory I'd love the idea of a customshop or FSR guitar personalised by the forum members, perhaps with our usernames or real names inscribed on the neck plate..

In contrast, the money side of it can be sobering at this time of the year, and orders will have to be put forth in one hit, which means some members who may not be "ready" will miss the boat so to speak.

So I propose maybe just a special to order pickguard instead with some logo or insignia.. Or an adhesive badge to signify our membership on our guitar that can be applied to it, much like the 40th anniversary American standard strats had a badge..

I think the more simple and cost effective, more of us would be able and willing.

There are presently 23 respondents to the vote, with a clear majority on the fence pending costing out the project and a variety of good ideas. Thus, as before, we are still talking. We can certainly consolidate the various ideas and submit them to Brad for comment. Again, I want to remind you of the circumstances surrounding the Forum T-shirt and how it might impact on anything the company might be willing to go forward with in the absence of a financial committent from the participants.

I don't think any of this would happen before Christmas, or very soon after. As we are still in a forum discussion about it, I think it will take some time to get everything in order as to voting options and a final result. If Fender was interested in doing this, I don't think it would be a rush job. I don't think we'd see the results of the votes for a few months.

I thought of you when I posted this. I wasn't sure if you would be in or out as you currently have the closest thing to a forum guitar. :)

'Martian's' tied for that honor. Were you involved in that project?
