I could live with this!! Nice idea. 8) Simplify life by specking it out like an American Standard with respect to neck carve, fret wire, and electronics and you've got it.

.... except for the gold hardware. I hate gold hardware. The gold colour rubs off after a while and the chrome underneath shows through and ...... well, it just look ugly when that happens.

I'd also like to see a slight off-white colour. Something with a bit of aged yellowish tinge to it.

Thanks for the clarification, ZZDoc.

With regard to the artwork, it could be something low key such as a logo on the back of the headstock, or a neck plate, or something more visible such as a custom pick guard.

Cheers!

It would be solid gold so no risk of it rubbing off.

I like the Fender Lounge pick right in the middle like the young fella suggested. Makes no mistake about what this guitar is. This is a Fender Lounge guitar. Lounge member pride.

You'll never get a concensus on the specs to make something like this worthwhile for Fender to build.

Party Pooper! LOL!
If this idea ever comes to fruition, the specs would be based on votes.

Party pooper, or the voice of reason?

There is no way of doing this in a way in which everyone comes out happy.

And even if we did vote on specs, would it not be wrong for a bunch of forum noobs to collectively outvote the veterans in terms of specs? There has to be some kind of line drawn. The more devoted members here (eg. Ceri, Arjay, ZZDoc, fhopkins, Miami Mike, nikininja, guitslinger to name a few) are the meat and potatoes of the whole forum. I would argue the specs should have immediate input from these people, that is to say, those who have been offering helpful insight to others since day one. Some people might disagree, and so the merry-go-round continues..

With everybody having specific tastes, I think this could get potentially expensive. As N alternative, how about a "Forum Lounge" pickguard.

That's basically what I said earlier. Some key members decide and the rest are either in or out. It's the only way that is fair to the board and still objective enough to be semi-democratic.

We could go with something like, those with 6 picks get 2 votes, those with 5 picks get one vote, those with 4 picks can voice an opinion but get no vote. Those with 3 picks or less can wait until the next time it happens to have some input. There's room for movement there with the specifics but if you don't do some kind of hierarchical thing it all turns to crap in short order.

Sounds like the Electoral College... lol

Seriously, I am just a lowly one-pick and doubt I have any meritorious contribution to make.

So I'll just go with the flow and make a decision once a protype is finalized.

cheers!

All of the foregoing, which we have encountered in prior discussion on the matter, is the reason why I put forward the idea of FMIC allowing us to do a "Corona in absentia'' so to speak. You get your choice of what's available at the Visitor's Center and they add the logo to the finish. IMHO the 'prototype' design idea submitted works.

i would agree. i'll put my hands up, i wont be buying one simply because i dont have that much disposable income and i have enough guitars, and i dont even play those very much.

however, if i was interested in a forum lounge guitar, i would hope there would be a cheaper option than an american standard. i think our American friends forget just how much more expensive everything is outside the US. in the UK we have to pay $1600 for an american std strat, while my quick research show them at about $1K in the US? thats a $600 difference, enough to buy an extra MIM std !!

and spending that much on a forum lounge guitar, which lets face it is just a bit of fun between ourselves, is a bit beyond what id call sensible. or at least only having the one price option is. especially if said guitar then has to be shipped from Corona after having the custom finish applied, to wherever in the world its going.

if you really want something accessible to the people of the forum it has to be something smaller than a whole guitar. a case, or pickguard, strap, i dunno. but id be interested to see how many people pipe up in this thread compared to how many would actually give their money to fender

Backing up a bit to something I wrote at the outset of this discussion....a reminder that Brad was disappointed at the poor response with respect to orders for the Forum Lounge T-shirt [of which I purchased two....a habit I have developed, learning from past experiences, with respect to something I like which has the potential for a limited service life. The second remains in its original wrapper.] Consequently, he voiced an opinion devoid of enthusiasm for a guitar project. Now I'm curious as to whether or not the Custom Shop would build it. It would be interesting to put that question to Mike Eldred and posting that design along with it.

SK: How about posting this design on Mike Eldred's Forum with the question:
'Mike...Would the Custom Shop build something like this to order?' Title the post: Fender Lounge Forums Guitar Concept...

Well...getting back to the nitty gritty. I'm suggesting, once again, that the company create the art work and apply to to a guitar which anyone of us might order as a build on a visit to the Corona Visitors Center. They'd just be extending us the courtesy of doing it from afar.

As much as I like this idea, its not so much as a forum guitar as it is a guitar with a forum logo on it. The point of having a forum guitar is to have input from all interested parties. I understand the logistics and that you can't please everybody. What we could do is take input from the truly serious buyers and get that info to Brad, or Fender themselves could decide which options could be voted upon. From there they could take that information and create the poll for voting.
