I would prefer keeping i under $800 - and the Broadcaster-idea is really interesting :D

How about something like this? Maybe with a swimming pool rout for endless modification possibilities.

Instead of a gaudy pickguard, an etched ashtray might be nice. And I guess we'll need a truss rod (I don't think the Esquires had those).
Under $800 seems resonable.

Richard, I was just kidding, lol. My original starting was $699.99 I think for a Standard Telecaster and left the design augmentations for members more in tune. The results I'm confident our Forum guitarists will keep price between that original start and 1k but, value will be unestimable :)

No hard feelings were taken. My original thought was between 500 and 1000 USD. I actually laughed when I read my post. Just waiting for the real fun to begin.

www.surveymonkey.com might be a good tool to get people's opinion. I've found it helpful in the past.

A Forum No-Caster would probably be a pretty economical design, yet since it's such a good basic guitar,it lends itself to all kinds of modifications and upgrades. As I said in a previous post, they could even have 2 or 3 different trim levels so if people wanted Noiseless Pickups or a Bigsby they could avail of it with the top trim level, yet the base model could have Tex-Mex pups or some other great pickup as standard issue. That way those of us with limited resources could get a very good and limited production run guitar for a comparitively low price.

I agree, no matter what body style it ultimately ends up being having a nice, simple, easy to modify guitar would be awesome. That way if someone wants locking tuners, a certain type of pickup, or some other bit of fanciness, they can get it. But we wouldn't all have to collectively pay for the fanciness by paying a higher price for it.

Maybe instead of an earth-shattering new guitar scheme we could just get some custom wiring or some small (easily reversible for those who don't want it) upgrades? I like having the bridge pickups wired to one of my Strat's tone pots, for example. I don't know, just an idea. I've been gravitating more and more towards simplicity lately.

Also, eliminating a hard case or gig bag might help keep the cost down. Those of us who'd like could order one a la carte.

Another idea, one that would probably be a little more costly... Has anyone thought of doing a custom limited edition color yet? (I admit I haven't read every page of the thread! lol) Like one of the FSR guitars that have been coming out recently?

And to answer Mike's question, it would have to be somewhere in the $500-$700 range for me too. Anything above that, and I'd really have to think about it to be honest. And perhaps think about getting a credit card...

That's a good idea. I had the idea to use a color that they haven't use in a long time.

Pick something: http://fendercolorchart.webatu.com/index.php

Cheers

+1, no credit card here, lol. David's, color out of Fender's old catalog, idea with yours and Derek's, Texas, and everyone else's so far is showing interest at the very least :D

The plate reads "27 of 68" which is encouraging. I thought the minimum number for a run would be higher. :)

Cheers!

Haha - no, I admit I kinda zoned out for a few pages too.

However:

If we're going for a whole guitar rather than just a Forum pickguard or neckplate then to me a bit of custom detailing or finishing on an essentially stock guitar is the most realistic plan. Especially since somewhere way back on this thread Brad said:
Brad Traweek - Fender wrote:
Thoughts on an instrument whose cosmetics are directly derived from the instrument in the forums logo graphic itself?

I'm strangely turned on by the Esquire plan too. So how's about a Forum Esquire (The Moderator - neat name, Doc! :D ) with a Blonde body to match the yellow/cream in the Forum logo, with a neck and body both bound in black. And a black-cream-black pickguard with the Forum logo on it? There ya have a guitar including some of the Forum colours and the logo, and it's essentially a stock factory model except with some unusual and very tasty binding.

Bit like this - 'cept with black binding on neck and body (sorry not to do a better Photoshop but it's midnight where I am and I'm too tired):

Image

Amazingly, that, or something close, I would actually commit to buying.

Cheers - C

Nice pic Ceri 8) I'm thinking along the same lines. I guess I could live with the big logo. It's just something about a picture of a guitar on a guitar that bothers me slightly. It's a bit like those kid's Batman costumes with a picture of Batman on the front. Anyways, this wouldn't deter me from buying one.
The reason I think the Esquire is a great idea, is that it will appeal to the traditionalists and historians among us, as well as being a platform for some diverse modification projects.
I would personally love to own a limited edition guitar that resembles the first solid body electric, with the input of some knowledgeable and talented people.
Goodonya ...Mark.
