Thanks Brad!
Richard, Under $1000 is why I chose the Standard. With all of the bells and available whistles Standard Tele's are $699. Making it a Fender Lounge Forum Guitar hence adding value is up to the members cumulative solid body electric guitar expertise.

So how many orders do we need to get a green light? Also, how will this work for international orders?

Well mine's seen better days. It's been naturally reliced, but they're black with the Logo.

Hmm, this is getting very interesting...

I'd be down for anything in the under $500 range (MIM?), but I'd think about it if it were in the under $1000. It would just have to be at the right time (basically, after I get a car).

White is cool, and I'd buy that Tele Miami Mike posted in a heartbeat! I wonder, would it be possible to have Strat and Tele versions with the same specs? That way people in both camps are happy? Or would we have to come to a decision on one or the other?

Ditto for me, tbazzone and I'm sure there are others who feel same way and still others who would only consider a Tele because they're not much into Strats.

Important questions. Understandably Brad will not be able to answer these questions until at least after NAMM but perhaps someone who was involved with or has knowledge of the "first forum designed guitar project" Brad mentioned could provide some insight.

Cheers!

Time to pipe in here ...

Firstly, to all of those emphatically stating that a guitar is impossible ... ahem ... the very first "forum designed guitar" (designed via methodical refinement of specs by an online community throughout 1998, and physically built and sold in 1999) includes a certificate hand-signed by yours truly! :-) The instruments that resulted from the effort were absolutely a compromise in many respects - but they're killer guitars, nothing quite like them has ever been built before or since, and they've turned into quite the collector's items.

Speaking a bit vaguely above since the effort I'm describing above predated my Fender career, but the point being ... it absolutely can be done. It is not easy by any stretch. The key here is someone willing to step forward and take on the (potentially hundreds) of hours required to methodically work through the phases of spec'ing out an instrument based on community feedback - without any specific guarantee that a consensus will be reached nor that, even if reached, the project will necessarily go forward. Basing the whole thing over a series of detailed quantitative surveys as per earlier suggestions is probably the way to go. From this side if I had an actual spec in hand (or something resembling one), and an actual guesstimate as to how many folks would step forward and buy said instrument if offered, it'd be a simple matter to call some manufacturing and product management folks together on this end and investigate realism of the project.

Secondly, not only is it NAMM prep season (and we'll be there in full force as usual), but here in the Web crew it's our absolute busiest time of the year right now even outside of the upcoming NAMM crunch. You'll see why in the weeks ahead. :-) 15 and 16 hour days have been the norm of late but I've made a vow to the team that they're at least getting Christmas Eve and Christmas off! So if you're needing more specific guidance from me as to how to get to the end goal - I simply lacke the available time at the moment. I've been casually following this thread and waiting to see how it gels of its own accord - but next year (post NAMM) I can assist with formalizing the effort a bit if the interest remains.

Thirdly, lots of discussion here about the Forum T-shirt project. I actually have very fond memories of that effort so don't want to paint too dark of a cloud on it. I did end up with a huge box full of them which I have lying around to this day - had to actually purchase them back out of the warehouse out of my own cost center despite repeated pleas for assistance in helping me sell through them all. So that's the only bit of negativity: supply definitely exceeded demand by a fair stretch. Part of that in that case was due to the minimum order requirement by the vendor.

Fourthly, regarding pickguards and nameplates. All within the realm of reason. Those are far less interesting options to me personally but if that's what is ultimately decided here, we can look at doing it for sure.

Cool! 8)

Would someone like to start a new thread with a poll with different cost effective options on it? You would be suprised how fast a guitar build will rack up cost if not done on a budget. Like I said I could go up to a grand; however, keep in mind we are trying to make this affordable for all who wish to participate.

Good idea, rkreisher. However before we start a new thread, I suggest we come up with the polling questions in this one.

I think there is a limit of 10 questions per poll so I don't know how all this would work. Hopefully someone here who knows about stats and phrasing questions will chime in and clear things up. These are just raw, off the top of my head suggestions to get the ball rolling. Please feel free to edit/change as required.

    Cost
I would be willing to spend
    [] up to $1,000 USD
    [] up to $800 USD
    [] up to $500 USD
    [] up to $300 USD
    [] price is no object

    Type
    [] Strat ONLY
    [] Tele ONLY
[] Strat or Tele, it's all good
    [] None of the above

    Color
    [] Black
    [] White
    [] Black or White
    [] Other color
    [] Any color

Obviously we need a lot more, but maybe this could be a start?

Cheers!

I definitely will (soon) want to close this particular thread and restart a new more official one on the topic - I'd like to do the honors of that if ya'll don't mind. This thread thus far has primarily been about speculation as to whether there'd even be interest on this end, so we'll want a more focused thread that starts out a bit more authoritatively explaining what we're trying to do. The discussion and voting will likely take a fair amount of time (months, minimum) and require multiple phases of voting and hence the thread needs to be meaningful to someone stumbling across the concept for the first time in order to really start building excitement. Have been giving more thought to the topic past few days and actually take back a bit of what I said previously as I think I have some reasonable thoughts now as to how to approach the whole thing too - may be able to drive it all from this side so folks aren't left speculating how to really get the effort started. Dilemma currently is that we are right smack in the middle of NAMM prep season so simply lack the available time to devote uninterrupted focus on the topic. Must ensure a smooth NAMM as first and topmost priority!
