I was thinking about that too Bros. In a roundabout (isn't that the title to a song by the band "Yes") way NAMM might work in the Forums favor re: FSR Fender Lounge Guitar and stuff. :D

A little feedback would help us to narrow our options.

Indeed, but we haven't heard from Brad and I'm thinking this may have something to do with what he said in the "State of the Union" thread: "The effort would have to be a bit more universally embraced in terms of folks stepping forward to purchase than the 'Forum t-shirt' project from a few years back".

I wasn't around then but as ZZDoc explained:
ZZDoc wrote:
... Supply exceeded demand. Expectation exceeded realization. ...They were sold through the Fender Store. I own two. When the demand ran cold, Brad advised that they were reducing the price of the remaining supply and there would be no more once the lot was exhausted.
Looking at the total number of votes and doing a quick count of those who have posted in this thread suggests that at least fifty forum members have shown an interest. Is this enough from Fender's point of view? I'm not sure. For those who were around, how would you compare the current level of interest for a Forum Loung Guitar and/or accessories to the interest for the "Forum T-Shirt Project"?

We should keep in mind that any Fender Lounge item which may result from our suggestions - be it a guitar, neck plate, pick guard, strap, pick, etc. - would have a relatively limited market compared to other Fender merchandise.

Of course if someone like EC decided to join the forum then I'm sure we'd have a Forum Lounge guitar. ... Hey, ....   ....

Cheers!

We don't have any information with respect to how many units they produced vs. how many units they sold during the t-shirt project. What would help would be a proposal from Brad with regard to the item they thought would be most expeditious to produce, how many units they would have to sell to make it profitable. Based upon that, they could ask for a pre-order committment: i.e. a deposit/full payment by credit card, refundable if their minimum was not met.

NAMM starts in 36 days - lots of prep work I'm sure.

So, here is the platform, Fenders standard. Comes in 8 color/neck combos. Getting everyone to agree on what makes it a Lounge guitar should get interesting :D Image

I've said it before, the only way to get everyone to agree is for Fender to conduct a survey. Whatever specs have the highest amount of votes wins.

The bottom line I thought could be the goal, to have value far exceed cost because of our attention to detail it will ease the glide from plans to production.
Fender didn't specify a body wood, so for first choice which body wood should the Lounge guitar have?
other basic info about standard features:
The Standard Telecaster combines the best of old and new, with hotter single-coil pickups, shielded body cavities, medium jumbo frets, six-saddle strings-through-body bridge, cast/sealed tuners, tinted neck, parchment pickguard and control knobs, and'70s-style headstock logo.
Neck Shape: Modern "C" Shape
Number of Frets: 21
Fret Size: Medium Jumbo
Position Inlays: Black Dot
Fretboard Radius: 9.5" (24.1 cm)
Neck Material: Maple
Neck Finish: Maple Fingerboard: Satin Finish on Back, Gloss Finish on Front
Nut Width: 1.650" (42 mm)
Scale Length: 25.5" (64.8 cm)
Neck Plate: Standard 4 Bolt

Truss Rod Nut: 3/16" Hex Adjustment
Pickup Configuration: S/S
Bridge Pickup: Standard Single-Coil Tele®
Neck Pickup: Standard Single Coil Tele® Neck Pickup
Pickup Switching: 3-Position Blade: Position 1. Bridge Pickup, Position 2. Bridge and Neck Pickups, Position 3. Neck Pickup
Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone
Hardware

White (like this) would allow the Fender Forums logo to scream out...

Arctic White is one of the color choices for the Fender standard Telecaster Mike :D

Time to pipe in here ...

Firstly, to all of those emphatically stating that a guitar is impossible ... ahem ... the very first "forum designed guitar" (designed via methodical refinement of specs by an online community throughout 1998, and physically built and sold in 1999) includes a certificate hand-signed by yours truly! :-) The instruments that resulted from the effort were absolutely a compromise in many respects - but they're killer guitars, nothing quite like them has ever been built before or since, and they've turned into quite the collector's items.

Speaking a bit vaguely above since the effort I'm describing above predated my Fender career, but the point being ... it absolutely can be done. It is not easy by any stretch. The key here is someone willing to step forward and take on the (potentially hundreds) of hours required to methodically work through the phases of spec'ing out an instrument based on community feedback - without any specific guarantee that a consensus will be reached nor that, even if reached, the project will necessarily go forward. Basing the whole thing over a series of detailed quantitative surveys as per earlier suggestions is probably the way to go. From this side if I had an actual spec in hand (or something resembling one), and an actual guesstimate as to how many folks would step forward and buy said instrument if offered, it'd be a simple matter to call some manufacturing and product management folks together on this end and investigate realism of the project.

Secondly, not only is it NAMM prep season (and we'll be there in full force as usual), but here in the Web crew it's our absolute busiest time of the year right now even outside of the upcoming NAMM crunch. You'll see why in the weeks ahead. :-) 15 and 16 hour days have been the norm of late but I've made a vow to the team that they're at least getting Christmas Eve and Christmas off! So if you're needing more specific guidance from me as to how to get to the end goal - I simply lacke the available time at the moment. I've been casually following this thread and waiting to see how it gels of its own accord - but next year (post NAMM) I can assist with formalizing the effort a bit if the interest remains.

Thirdly, lots of discussion here about the Forum T-shirt project. I actually have very fond memories of that effort so don't want to paint too dark of a cloud on it. I did end up with a huge box full of them which I have lying around to this day - had to actually purchase them back out of the warehouse out of my own cost center despite repeated pleas for assistance in helping me sell through them all. So that's the only bit of negativity: supply definitely exceeded demand by a fair stretch. Part of that in that case was due to the minimum order requirement by the vendor.

Fourthly, regarding pickguards and nameplates. All within the realm of reason. Those are far less interesting options to me personally but if that's what is ultimately decided here, we can look at doing it for sure.

Specific guidance would be very helpful especially with regard to the procedure used on the previous online community guitar project which led to its realization. As they say, experience is the best teacher.

Of course all this will wait until after NAMM and after you've had a chance to catch your breath. Hopefully these 15-16 hour days don't last too long for you and your crew.

I think I speak for many here when I extend a sincere and heartfelt thank-you for all you've done and continue to do!

All the best to you and yours for 2013!
Cheers!

If there are now talks of an actual Fourmcaster I am in. Lets get some polls together. Lets try to keep this thing under 1000 USD. I know I could not afford anything more expensive. I know it can be done, look at the American Special and MIM Standards.
