Here's a twist on that old "What's your favorite Fender model?" thread. So, which Fender model do you like the least?

The Mustang gets my vote. I don't like the sliding switches, I hit them while playing...

Mustang got my vote as well. I just simply don't like how it sounds, when comparing to strats, telecasters and jaguar. I don't like the look too much as well.

You're right. Soundwise it doesn't hold a candle to a nice Strat or Tele. The wood they use, poplar, doesn't have the best tonal quality. That coupled with those low output covered single coils makes for a wimpy sounding guitar. Lookswise? I think they look cool, but it ain't about looks...

As a Mustang owner, I have to speak up--no way is it the worst Fender. I like it the best actually. But then not every guitar is for every player.

I judge a guitar on feel & sound--and the Mustang scores high in both. Put the pickups out of phase, roll off the tone control, and add some soft distortion--and it's a great blues sound for some mellow bluesy stuff. The subtle vibrato you can get with the heel of your hand on the tailpiece just adds to it.

And it sounds great for other styles as well. It's fun to play and the neck is great to learn tricky stuff on.

I've had one since 1981 and I love it. I've never bumped the switches. They've never been in the way. I've never had to give them a thought, except when I switch pickups or go between in & out of phase. That would be true of any guitar with controls--I think about the controls when I change them.

My least favorite Fender?

Probably a Bullet--(Cheap in feel, sound and looks) or
a Katana (Too awkward to play)

I also find Telecasters uncomfortable to play. But I wouldn't go complaining about any of them. In the right hands they can all sound great.

So it does vary from one to the next. Hand size, arm length, body shape, etc.

"The Strat" gets my vote, too. I hated that when it came out.

I'd have to say the Fender Swinger. A model CBS decided to make from failed parts lying around. Sheer Brilliance.

Hmm. What was that one they made in the CBS era with the Electric XII headstock drilled for a six-string?

Struck this picker as so butt-homely, its name won't even stick in memory. Poor freaking guitar, 'feel sorry for it.
