I was checking out a few pics on my phone when I noticed something
that looked like a scratch, paint checking, it isn't obvious upon
visual inspection, then I took a picture on the area, shined a light
and inspected.
Looks like a chunk of wood broke and was repaired some time
During the assembly and finishing.
Here are the pics, you be the judge

Ill be getting a replacement, possibly
an iced tea, the wheels are in motion.

That looks pretty usual for Gibson to me - when I worked in a music store selling them, we always remarked that if you want a Les Paul which is well built and nicely finished without going to the custom shop end of things, buy an Epiphone, as they were infinitely better finished than the Gibbos.

Some of the inlay work on Gibsons was truly horrible, filler all over the place, wonky markers, the lot.

I love gibsons, Les Paul's especially.
Epiphones are nice,
But I love nitro finishes.
I wanted the real deal .

Wow hope you get a result on this BST, a big magnifying glass when you go to pick up the replacement is in order I'd think.

Sweet water,
That's not their fault, you can't notice it in regular light, I noticed
it in a photo that the flash was a little bright.
To be honest, gibsons QA

It appears as though they did a very good job of repair. The glue is most likely stronger than the wood and would think they use the same stuff they use to GLUE the neck in...so I don't think you have any real structural issues here.

This was a new guitar right? In the old days, this Gibby would have been sold as a "Second" but it appears that is now acceptable to thier QC folks. If it really bothers you, take it back and ask for an exchange.

It is items such as this that makes me take a small kit with me when I got guitar and amp buying. A penlight is always a good item to take with you, as is one of those little dental type mirrors. Those are both musts!

Let us know which route you take.

That's too bad. I hate it when something like that tarnishes how you look at a beloved guitar, structurally sound or not. Disheartening. Takes all the joy out of it. I'll add my vote with the others. I say take it back and get one without flaws or repairs; one you can love again.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Amen, brother.
BMW, It's kind of like when I was in highschool a long time ago,
I started to go out with this hot girl that was about 2 years older and thought man, she's a keeper.
Then my older brother tells me, oh yeah I've been with her.
If you know what I mean. Don't get me wrong, it was fun while
it lasted.

All my Lesters come from Japan. I don't have to worry about inadequate QC.

I'm getting an iced tea with a subtle but nice flame.
