I used to live with a really good friend of mine. before he got a strat(which he eventually pawned) I would wake up every day to him playing my tele (unplugged). I was getting kind of annoyed with him playing it all the time, but becasuse we have been friends for years and he was the one who got me into guitar, I let it go. One day he goes to step out on the balcony and I say No! he askes me why and I say I don't want my guitar out there. He says I understand and brought it back in. He also offered to lend me some money once when I was in need. In return, he said he wanted to have full access to my guitar whenever he wanted. Again I told him no.

No. You don't realize what a bad idea that is until it's too late.

I don't mind a bit. As a few others here have mentioned, I don't own any "top-o-the-line" guitars, so everything I own falls into the "work horse" category.
My wife and I throw parties occasionally and all of my equipment winds up in the party room. We'll hire a band for the event and let them know that there will be audience participation. The musical guests are welcome to use my instruments all they want... and I've never had anyone (except my youngest son) play without asking permission first.

I'll let yaz know when the next gig is coming up 8)

But you have to blow your nose first.

I was jamming at a friends house last year, someone we know,
Asked to play my strat. Mind you he didn't know how to play
Guitar, he starts doing Pete Townsend power chords.
You know he swings his arm around to strum the chord.
I was like, "OK, that's enough" he says, "Man, you should get
a BC Rich". I told him , "Get Out!"

There's a couple guys that I've known for almost 20 years that I'll let play my bass for a minute or so. They play guitar and know how to handle it. I won't hand it over to a stranger at an open jam..that's for sure.

What makes me cringe is when someone does the "bend the neck while holding the upper horn" thing.

Sure I would. It's just a guitar after all.

It depends, Some guys think strumming involves broad sweeping motion from the top of the guitar to the very bottom using the pick to scratch the guitar all the way. Hitting the strings is a minor aside.

Folks given to that type over exuberant scratching are generally welcome on already scratched up units.

Yes.

Rules:

Don't mess with my tuning.

You break anything, I beat the $@!& out of you, then make you buy a new one. (whatever it may be)

+1, I haven't a clue if that causes some sort of damage, but
don't wanna experiment on my gear to find out.

People I do not know or hardly know do not so much as touch any of my instruments under any circumstances whatsoever. No exceptions. OK, well maybe if Jeff Healey came back from the dead I'd let him play my Strat. My father taught me to know the value of a dollar and to take care of my things. I do not beat up my gear and I do not risk others beating it up either.

People I know and trust to play my instruments with care can play them any time they like.

People I've met before and who are friends of other friends may or may not have limited access to my lower end, less valuable gear depending on my observations of their behavior in the past.

I do that all the time. I've done it for 40+ years. Even on acoustics. Never once had a problem. Some guitars are not very movable and you have to hold the body but most Fenders you can simply shake the neck back and forth while you hold a chord or note to get some vibrato.
