this is a fair example of American blues with British flavor for good measure. Blues is an enigma in music. From a percussive perspective you could start to play a shuffle and by the next rif you could be playing a bossa nova. Blues is blues. 8)

SBLS...We don't always agree, but on this one...you nailed it :!: This is the blues and anyone who thinks someone can't play the blues because they have money, have no idea what the blues really are.

I'm willing to bet that the idea rich people can't have the blues comes from the fact that for a large majority of people not having enough money is the biggest problem in their lives, so they think lots of money will make them happy. Unfortunately there are many other problems in life too but that can be hard to see when your biggest issue is money.

Blues, be it major or minor, is uncompromised in the way it describes joy or heartbreak.

The only real bluesmen were the guys from the Delta and Texas areas ie. black guys who came up through the tradition and lived the life. It's not just about music. They had to escape lynchings and dirt poor poverty etc. etc. etc. These were the real bluesmen.

It just seems fraudulent and frankly ridiculous to have middle class guys who were spoon fed their whole lives and went to art college wailing on about how life is so hard and they feel so low.

It's not genuine really, it's a sham.

As for blues describing joy or heartbreak: What about the tango music of Astor Piazzolla? It's got more depth of emotion than a lot of blues stuff and is more emotional in a lot of ways.

that's right, if you really want to know what Blues is, ask a guy from Glasgow

Blues comes from America, but you don't have to be American to play blues any more than you have to be from Scotland to use a telephone.

Why do you insist that just because a man has money means that he should be happy? Who are you to judge a man simply because he's wealthy?
There are bigger problems in a persons life then money! There are things that cannot be bought.
Have you ever lost a loved one? Do you have any idea how much that hurts?
Well regardless of how much money you have, there's no way to bring that person back, you can't go out and buy a replacement.

Yeah i have lost loved one's, plenty of them. Lost my Dad in 2005. That doesn't mean that everyone that loses a loved one is suddenly qualified to be a bluesman!!! Everyone suffers loss eventually.

Whole point of living is losing.

You don't have to be a "bluesman" to have/play the blues. Anyone can play, because anyone can express their hardship and loss.

Ha! that doesn't define it!

What is a bluesman? as opposed to someone who just picks up an instrument and tries to play the blues?

IMO the point of that scene in the movie is that "Lightning Boy" had become a bluesman because of the life experience that he gained on the road, and that it wasn't a matter of having the right color skin or being born on the right plantation in the right town in Mississippi.

Lots of towns... Lots of songs... Lots of women... Good times... Bad times... Only thing I wanted anyone to say is... 'He could really play... He was good'.

Love that movie, might be about time to watch it again. :)
