Little bit different tryin to give 330 million people free health care.

Not a bit of it! How is it different? yes there's a higher population, but at the end of the day that should make no difference. Your country has more than enough criminal tax dodgers feathering their swiss bank accounts. If they paid what they truly owed everyone would have free healthcare.

Not to mention the zillions of dollars you've pissed down the drain prosecuting wars all over the planet, instead of giving your own people the dignity of proper healthcare.
Talk about needing to put your house in order.

All i hear is excuses. Bottom line: the Republicans lost the election because they are not appealing to black/hispanic and poor whites or women or !@$ people. End of story. Seeing as these are the groups that are growing, you'll probably never get into power again. After all if Obama can win this election, at a time when the country is going through the worst financial crisis in generations, then the Republicans are finished as a political force unless they re-think their whole agenda.

I am not going to say I know a whole lot about the U.S. election because I don't, but I do want to say something about health care. I am a Canadian who does not know what it is like to have to pay for medical services. I don't understand why some Americans are opposed to this. I think everyone should have peace of mind where personal health is concerned. Now if Canada could only get on board with the UK and add prescription drugs to healthcare.

I'm from Canada too and I wish I could have brought the healthcare system here to the US with me and my wife. We spent $18K out of pocket last year and her operation this year cost $87K (luckily we have insurance which paid most of this). It's nuts. Thank God for President Obama, and the ACA actually creating a bigger pool so the costs are spread around. He's not exactly Tommy Douglas but he's doing some good.

hmmmm....there have been a lot of interesting points raised here and as an interested outside observer I have the feeling that the majority of responders believe the system is broken and yet very few offer any valid ideas on ways of moving towards fixing it. The two party system is obviously rigged and maintained by those who crave power for whatever reason be it cronyism, fascism or whatever mask you'd like it to wear. Many of you do have good ideas ie Minn suggesting not re-electing ALL of the incumbents....get rid of the ingrained old-boy networks. I also think that there is a great need for a third or fourth national political party to give a voice to those who feel like they are disenfranchised by the current situation ( I could joke here about Depublicans or Remocrats but will contain my inner Frank Zappa). I also believe that there should be greater restrictions applied to the amount of money that can be raised and spent by candidates and parties trying to get elected...it makes me assume that somehow somewhere that money has to be repaid...which smells like corruption of the very process of a fair and equal election. Perhaps amendments to the constitution are in order for it seems the system was rigged from the very beginning against the popular vote...in fear of what...giving the people what they want...seems to me the founding fathers didn't trust the people very much. All I can say is no matter what don't ever give up your right to vote ....even if you go in and vote for the lesser of two evils (as I suspect many do). And remember it all comes down to communicating, debates and discussions and then organizing for change whether you're red, blue or white in your polital leanings.....

the only thing i need from my government is my mail and they're going broke too. these guys lost my wife's passport and original birth certificate.
of course i trust them with the small issue of health care. the only thing these useless lawyers agree on is their own pay raise. why is it that they agreed to exempt themselves?
also, has anyone here read the entire bill?

Yep the only reason why we have the highest quality healthcare in the world is because we don't have socialized healthcare like in Europe. Sure, it's far from perfect, but there is a reason why many patients from countries that have "free" medicine come to the US when they need the best healthcare.

"Free" healthcare... you get exactly what you pay for.

And who can forget this memorable quote?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jejF2DwNbSM

Nobody knows what's in this 2000+ page bill, not even your congressman that probably voted yes for it.

I just finished writing another $3K in cheques to our healthcare industry. Drop in the bucket to the 1%, I know, but for the rest of us, oh, I don't know, kind of stressful. But hey, as long as Mint Rawmoney and his friends have an extra billion, I can sleep at night!!

We WILL have single-payer/Medicare for All in this country.

I love when foreigners argue American politics, it's kind of like when men describe the pains of child birth.

My candidate won the election. Oh, and I've been paying taxes here for 35 years. But hey, thanks for the kind word, I'll let the other patients in oncology know that they should leave if they don't like the fact that they have to fight for every test and spend their life savings because we don't have single payer health care yet.

Not to be unkind, but yes, that's one option they have. Another is to stay and hope things become what they want them to be here in the U.S. And the last is to accept it for what it is.

Not sure what else to tell you, if there was a single payer health care system here, you'd have a whole different group of people complaining about that. It's hard to make 300+ million people happy all at once.
