Well, I don't want to start injecting a lot of generalities into the mix, but essentially, yes.

As I mentioned, the Tele is a staple, and while I have no data to back it up, I suspect that Tele sales have remained pretty consistant throughout the years. There may be some minor peaks and valleys to a graph, but overall I think it's always been a good seller.

At my local Guitar shop (Guitars exclusively), where all the employees are gigging musicians, they all play Telecasters. Sure, they have strats, lesters, SGs etc. but the Tele is their base. When I first went looking, they tried to get me into a Tele at first, but I was jonesin' for a Strat.

Later, when my MIM Tele was given to me by a friend, I realized what a great guitar it truly is... the perfect pair imho - a Stratocaster and a Telecaster.

cheers!

Indie bands like it because it wasn't popular. Like Ray-Ban Wayfarers in the 1980s, the Tele is cool because it is uncool with the populace.

Every generation 'discovers' something that a previous generation once discarded.

Wayfarers originated in the 1950's, BTW.

what an absurd argument considering nobody has inside sales or statistical information to support their point. I could say blue cars are gaining popularity lately, can you prove me wrong?

Well yes, I think auto insurance companies and state police agencies keep that type information. But then this was supposed to be just a friendly conversation not a day in court.

OK, perhaps so. But its still seems like I'm seeing more in popular media.

It just seems like I see a lot more people using them, especially young female artists.

If you do an image search on Google using the search term "Young Female Guitar Players", it doesn't exactly support your case.

Are you sure?

It's certainly the "in vogue" Fender guitar of the day.

Maybe I'm confused about what 'in vogue' means? Or maybe you are?

Stylish, trendy. Particularly with young persons. In this case popular music.

I based this on just what I am seeing in music magazines etc. Nothing scientific, just conversation. The only way to REALLY know would be to ask the Fender folks. but then that would leave out re-sale instruments 2nd had etc. so probably no real way of knowing statistically.
